New to Win11 - General Concern

Hello All,
just got my upgrade / clean install and a general concern of mine is that if I re-install various small apps / scripts / things that make your life easier in maintenance, etc. ... and worked fine in Win10 ... do I have to be concerned they might corrupt anything in Win11?
E.g. - I used to use 'Ccleaner' ... still good in Win11? ... 'devicecleanup' for eliminating useless shadow devices/copies ... 'autoruns' ... longfilefinder ... clean event viewewer.bat ... ... ... but also major apps like Malwarebytes, or a backup utility ... you get the drift
... Is it risky to just re-install them as I backed them up from prev. Win10 or must I search for especially labelled "Win11" versions?

Win11 21H2, Built 22000.348, Samsung 970Pro, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia 2060

I use CCleaner, Malwarebytes, etc in Windows 11. No problem. Also Syncback Pro, Quickbooks, AOMEI Partition, Macrium, Rainlendar, etc.

Was the computer upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11?
Or was a clean install performed (all partitions deleted and Windows installed using an iso)?

During an upgrade the upgrade assistant will often block upgrades when there is incompatible software.
During a clean install the attempted installation of incompatible software often displays an error message or code.


In case there are problems with software Windows has a troubleshooter.

To launch the troubleshooter open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
msdt.exe -id pcwdiag

The troubleshooter is launched then the problematic software is selected.

Not so good on my 2-month-old Win11 Pro Notebook

You will have to do all those things that make life easier again except for any registry changes you made in in HKCU.

- clean / fresh install
- yes: had no problems with Ccleaner, Malwarebytes, and some scripts to delete junk, so far.
- there is no problem ... as mentioned: it iwas a general question to avoid possible problems with apps that DON'T specifically mention "For
Win11", in hopes for advise from people who have Win11 longer than I do.

Let's close it.

I've noticed that Autoruns 13.98 is the last good version. They started "gimping" Autoruns after 13.98.

I am running Windows 11 for two months now and never saw any application or game, no matter how old, that worked in 10 but not in 11. As long as it runs on Windows 10 64-bit, it also runs in Windows 11. Just make sure you always install it with right-click Run as Administrator. This is to avoid setup being corrupt due to access rights. Also always make sure you have your drivers updated. Some times Windows Update just install a driver to make a device work. This doesn't mean that the device works at its full potential or that it exposes all the hardware features to the system. That's why I prefer downloading most drivers directly from manufacturer's support site and use Windows Update as a last resort. A common example is that Windows Update fails to properly identify some older graphics cards so it installs Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. This is a generic WDDM graphics driver that displays stuff on screen but has absolutely no hardware acceleration (all visual effects are done by the CPU), so the system slows down. If you manually download and install the latest graphics drivers from the manufacturer, the system becomes much faster. The same goes for some old printers. The generic driver prints on plain paper at standard or draft quality without any other features. Installing the official driver from manufacturer gives you a great choice of printing settings and many paper types besides plain.

On mine everything mentioned I use worked fine. I had many tweaks and hacks in Win10 and they all worked fine as well in Win 11. Shouldn't have any problems at all. you can always create an image first for peace of mind, In fact it is always good to have an image, I use Macrium Reflect

I cloned my Windows 10 SSD on a new SSD before attempting to upgrade to Windows 11. The upgrade failed at the second boot stage because of some unknown driver issue (I suspect the custom drive filters installed by Nero) and reverted back in 10. After some unsuccessful attempts to upgrade 10 to 11, I eventually broke 10 (thanks God I had a backup) and I decided to do a clean installation which is fine (see my 2nd PC specs). I have not installed all my apps and games in 11 yet, but so far everything works OK, even some very old games and screensavers of Windows XP Plus! A couple of old games had trouble in fullscreen mode and just crashed after a few seconds and returned to the desktop. I then made sure I checked the "Disable fullscreen optimization" box (or similar) in Compatibility settings of the game shortcuts and they loaded fullscreen without any other issues. In the meantime, should I ever need to go back in Windows 10, I will just backup my recent files, replace the new SSD with the original and ready to go.

First off Welcome to windows 11. Second, if your using an SSD Drive do not use Ccleaner. Or any cleaner really. The drives will be cleared automatically after a set time but using say Ccleaner on an SSD will corrupt it sooner than later because of limited erasing, but anyway as far as say your Malwarebytes program sure you can install it on Win11 it will update to the latest version which is compatible with Win11. Hope that helps. I didnt get into the meat of using third party cleaners on an SSD but if you search online you'll find all those answers to that.
