I switched from Revo to IObit Uninstaller about 3 years ago and have been totally satisfied with it. If you are stating it is malware because it will sometimes show a notification of other IObit products, which is a huge stretch for a malware classification and also used by several other vendors to promote their additional apps, it seems very inappropriate.

He is most likely referring to the fact that Iobit literally stole malwarebytes's signatures for their antimalware in the past. Whatever product you use, the trust is the most important part and if a company breaks the law, it is on the verge of being a malware. I myself despise malwarebytes, but Chinese companies tend to do this. AV-comparatives removed 360 and tencent from testing for cheating.

I was unaware of the litigation proposed by MBAM. It appears from the article you cited in your post that the IObit company have been involved in nefarious practice. Despite their background, I find the IObit Uninstaller Pro application to be worth the cost. I especially like the unattended install monitoring feature which I believe provides a better and more complete uninstall when it is used to remove an application. That's just my opinion.

All Revo does is completely remove software that is no long wanted or needed. It also uses the software's own uninstall app if it has one. Then cleans your registry. I'm not sure which method you both used: Advanced or the standard default registry cleaning up. Or if you used Revo's feature called "install application with Revo"

I have noticed when I reviewed Revo's registry entries (before it went ahead and deleted them) there were additionally entries that were selected by default that caught my attention. In particular, I recall some Chrome or other settings that were selected automatically which had no direct effect on the application which was to be deleted.

In these cases, what happened was Revo remembered that the browser was opened automatically after installation. So unless you're really careful, Revo can delete unnecessary entries.

I am also open to the fact there are other possibilities, but the example above is what remains embedded in my mind. I have stopped using Revo given my recent experience with Windows 10.

I use the Advanced scan after the default uninstall. I do check the entries beforehand.

I do too. But we can easily miss something especially if there are many entries, say, fifty, hundred or more entries

I've actually seen Revo Uninstaller miss some files and folders and registry entries after uninstalling programs. I've even seen scheduled tasks left behind.

I usually do a search using Everything after I uninstall a program, and sometimes even do a search with Registry Workshop to check the registry.

If you can remember to trace program installations, then that is the cleanest method if or when you decide to uninstall a program.
