New webcam picture shows mirrored horizontally?

I'm on a brand new computer that I just finished, Asus Proart Z790 Creator Wifi MB; i9-13900K; 32gb Corsair Dominator ram; Zotac 3090 TI; Samsung 980 Pro M.2 SSD; Windows 11 22H2 Build 22621.1702 etc. My three year old webcam died and I bought this as a replacement Sony Sensor Webcam 2K QHD Webcam once I plugged it in Windows installed the generic Microsoft driver for it and it works but strangely the image is flipped horizontally and everything is backwards i.e. if I raise my right hand it looks like my left. I did a Google search and none of the suggestions seem to help: In Settings / Bluetooth & Devices / Cameras / Video rotation it only give me the options for 90 degrees left or right and 180 degrees vertical. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

It's not broken.
It is displaying an image as seen from the camera, with the correct parity (right/left orientation.)

The view is not the one you'd see if you were looking in a mirror.

Because on my previous webcam it wasn't like this, when I did a webcam test it looked what I'm used to seeing on most webcams as normal and this is not. No webcam I've ever had displayed an image like this.

The video will show correctly for other viewers but shows as a mirror image for you. Try this test. Open the camera app and take a photo of yourself with your right hand raised. Open your pictures folder and it should be in the camera roll folder.

I've been using this webcam test for years, at least three webcams Webcam Test - Check Your Camera With Our Online Tool and on all prior webcams the test showed what I consider to be normal. When I did what you suggested and used the camera app to take a picture I raised my right hand and the picture appears flipped horizontally and my left hand is raised.

My Windows 11 Cam app reverses the image like a mirror just as you say. I use it to comb my hair sometimes. When I want to see myself as others do I run Webcamoid

    I purchased this for $109 because it is the only Laptop I have seen with 1920x1080 resolution for the money. OK for streaming, email, etc..

OK, So in video mode your right hand raised is on the opposite 'side' in the video. Check the manual supplied for mirroring. There was the same question raised in customer & answers on Amazon.

The manual which is more like a 2x4 inch foldout (with a picture of the product, a diagram, a picture of it on a monitor & tripod, a FAQ, connection diagram, product features) doesn't say anything about mirroring but there is a email for the company so maybe I'll email them. I looked at the Amazon Q&A and I see the one guys says "I've only used it for Discord and I noticed that the preview image is backwards but it's normal once out of preview." but that webcam test should be showing me what someone else should see during a Skype or Zoom meeting and it's flipped but I'm not sure what he means by "preview mode". If you have a webcam try the test and if you raise your right hand and the image shows you raising your right hand then for me it's opposite.

If the camera didn't come with any software then check the program your using to see it can change the setting of your camera.

A test: hold up something with large print. A newspaper headline would be good. (I know few subscribe to papers these days, but..)

If you can read it normally, you'll know that the parity is not flipped.

If you want your onscreen image to appear like you're looking in a mirror (where the parity is flipped), you may need different software.

Another option is to think of it as if your looking at your twin. Eventually you'll get use to it.

On my Windows 11 laptop the Camera app shows me reversed also. However, the Zoom app automatically mirrors that so it comes out correct. In any case in the Zoom video settings there is an option "Mirror my video" in case it is needed.

If you can read it normally, you'll know that the parity is not flipped.

If you want your onscreen image to appear like you're looking in a mirror (where the parity is flipped), you may need different software.

Ok I did that and I can read the print, so it's weird but every webcam I've had showed the image flipped the other way so it seems like every other webcam was wrong for some reason and this one is right.

Did your other cameras come with software? I don't think it's the camera but the software settings for the camera.

The default you see (preview) should be a mirrored image in a video call so that the recipients of the call (broadcasted video) will show correctly (non mirrored).

If I use the camera app in windows the picture is flipped i.e. the hand raised appears to be on the opposite side and text is the normal way round. In Skype the picture is a mirror image and text is reversed. I haven't noticed any setting to affect this in either app.

It's correct in Skype. That's a Skype setting so the recipients see a non mirrored video. In the Camera app this is what I see with a screen shot,

The Windows Camera app shows everything flipped in the preview, but once you record a video or take a pic, it's flipped the correct way. I guess this feature is the way it is so that when you monitor what you do, it is easier to point at things without getting confused, while looking at what you are recording.

Makes a lot of sense to me.

Yes it's the same as writing text on a glass door, looks fine your side, but looking in from outside it's mirrored.
