New Win 11 PC - sites say I am using adblocker- I didn't install one?

Allow Ads on History Quiz

I use a number these sites to keep mentally sharp as I get older. I understand they use ads as their only means of funding available to them. I'm fine with that.

This is continuing to make me crazy constantly seeing these messages appear. I never installed an adblocker, and cannot find one on the conmputer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you using an anti virus suite or similar ' computer protection' app, like McAffee or Norton for example, that might have an adblocker function you can switch off?

Many places that give you that message, will go ahead and work just fine, even if you don't turn off your Ad Blocker. Yes, I use one!

I am using Webroot, but I also have used that for the last five years without experiencing this problem.

I'm simply using the version of Edge that came with Windows 11? And when I followed instructions to shut down an ad browser in Edge, there were none listed on the version I am running.

First, it's a huge pain to have to click multiple times to get past it. Second, it's not fair to the sites providing you with worthwhile content that I make use of.

only Webroot and Malware Bytes, both of which I have used exclusively, for years, without this issue ever appearing

The "I've used this for years without issue" thinking can cause troubleshooting to become derailed, it is entirely possible that the site authors have changed the detection method to include items that usually fly under the radar but now are detected.
Or they have implemented a change that is flagging something in error.
Also if you use any software that interfaces with your method of web browsing then you are not 'simply using Edge' as supplied by Windows, & such software can have updates that cause issues with previously working services.

The point being that things can change on both ends of the connection. Temporarily disabling software at your end to check for the issue is the easiest step for you to troubleshoot, the only other real option is to notify the website/ software maintainers concerned or check the forums if they exist and ask/ check if they have made any changes recently that could cause the issue and wait for a reply.

Just for information: Synology routers include the option to block ads.
I assume you would know if you had selected this option in the router set up.

Thanks, but I don't have a Synology router. And my current router is a year older than my pc.

Thanks. I did, previously turn off Malware Bytes to see if that had any impact, but no change.
