Solved No "Safe to remove your device" message

So on my main laptop, I don't get the notification any more when going to remove a usb stick after clicking on it. It doesn't come up with it's safe to remove your device (or whatever it says). With some usb sticks I can tell it's disconnected as the light goes out, so it is working, just not telling me when it's safe to remove. Also the bar with the option to click the usb stick to remove it - stays up and doesn't pop back down again, unless I click the arrow.

It works on all my other machines so just wondering why not on this one any more. Other than the fact I have a lot of files on it. Not that many programs on but have Capture One Pro and Powerdirector on there if that makes any difference.

Look is disk management and right click on the USB stick in the left column where is says Disk one or whatever and select Properties then Policies and see if Quick removal has been set

Thanks Edwin! Done. So yes I have the quick removal option - it says default. Do I want the other one then? The performance one? I just want the little notification back! I'm sure I didn't change anything.

It should be buried in there somewhere.

Nevertheless...,
If you're not getting the notification..., as long as you're not copying data to or from the drive, and Quick Removal is enabled, you can watch it disappear from Explorer as you eject it and you should be fine.
The only other thing that may halt the procedure is if Defender is scanning the drive, which doesn't matter if that is interrupted.

I think I've found it - right click taskbar for taskbar settings. Expand "other system tray icons" and it's under there. I think that's it?

Edit: No it isn't - it just puts the icon on the task bar.

And the solution was - turn off "do not disturb" in the action centre when clicking on date :-) I now have the notification back to safely remove hardware.

I only just found "Optional Drivers" by accident the other day - because I was trying to find them - they are very well nested away!
