notepad alternatives?

what is a good note pad alternative from the one in win11? that one claims it save auto and i also hit save and the next time i open the note i get errors and it says the file is not there. win10 was way better. so i'm looking for another notepad that when i need to open it it is there. even in the backups it shows it is there but then i try to open it and it is not really there.

yes i did it comes up and says it auto saved. i look in the docs folder and i see the file and it has the correct date and then the next day i open it and i get a error message and the tab goes away. i will look into notepad ++

Notepad++ is a pretty well known package, and I've never seen any hint of security issues. Truthfully, we're using computers from China, software from Russia, why so worried about Ukraine?

I guess so, but that shouldn't matter. It's a great editor and I use it all the time

There are options and here's the list, I don't understand the issue with them supporting the Ukraine.

Last I recall, the author lived in France. He (Don) often makes political statements with his software. Some people love it, hate it, whatever. It's a rock-solid editor.

thanks. after i scrolled down some and saw the other statements i then figured that might have been the deal. i got it now and will use that. i like the way win11 leaves a page open with all the notes i have but i do ot care that it seems to not do very well for saving. i do backups every few days with karans backup and it seems that win11 notepad never gets backed up. i even go to the file and then save and that fails often.

I love Notepad++. It's great that if you are working on a tab and then close the program, the program saves the tab so you still have your code or whatever, even if you forgot to save

I was about to recommend UltraEdit if you do a lot of serious text editing... but I see that they've been bought up in the last few years and instead of a $15-$30 program, it's now $80 per year for a subscription.

Great program, but not worth it unless someone sells you an older copy with the license key included.
