I have just come home after almost 3 months away, last time I used my desktop all was well but now my Graphics card (Zotac) is not recognised.
Display adapters in Device manager only lists Intel (R) UHD Graphics 360 and if I click on the Nvidea control panel the Zotac is not detected?
The card lights up and the fans run but not really sure what to do?

Motherboard is a MSI Z730 SLI Plus

Check your BIOS to see if settings have reverted to onboard graphics as opposed to discrete graphics, possible the coin cell battery responsible for saving settings has expired over time and needs replacing.
Check that the Zotac card is seated properly, powered if needed and that the display output is connected correctly.
Re install Nvidia drivers (maybe use DDU to remove older Nvidia drivers first if any components remain).

Thank you for your quick replies, I have replaced the coin cell and re-seated the card, this made the pc boot to BIOS without any input from me. I know nothing about BIOS so a bit afraid to dabble with it much, it is MSI Click BIOS 5.
I can't really find anything that mentions anything about anything other than integrated graphics apart from under "Integrated graphics configuration" I can choose "Initiate Graphic Adapter" which gives me the choice of either PEG or IGD which means nothing to me. So Im a bit stuck.
As thats all related to "Integrated I guess it's not what I am looking for anyway.
I have not tried updating the drivers yet, but 1) Would out of date drivers be quite so bad as to make the card invisible 2) Can I update the drivers if it is denying there is an Nvidea card on board?

Edit: I cannot update the drivers through GeForce Experience as it doesn't recognise I have a Nvidea GPU

I think you want the PEG option. But it's been a loooooong time since I've seen those options.

Yeah... you should use the PEG option in the BIOS.
That will initiate the PCIe graphics, first. Aka the Zotac.

Image1.png

IGD is the graphics part in your CPU.
PEG is your Zotac vid card.

Then when you boot the computer, it will "start" with your Zotac video card, first.
This may or may not solve your problem, but it's "supposed" to be set on... PEG in the BIOS.

Why your Zotac is not recognized, could be a few things.

1. Not seated properly in the PCIe slot.
2. The power connectors are loose or no longer supplying the power.
3. There is too much dust in the PCIe slot.
4. The Zotac has died.

Btw... welcome to Eleven Forum.
When you get the chance, please fill out your System Specs.
That will make it much easier for us and faster for you, when you post a problem. :)

NOTE: Since you replaced the coin cell... make sure the time/date is set correctly in the BIOS.
If the time/date is wrong in the BIOS... it can cause all sorts of problems.

Unfortunately changing to PEG makes no difference, yes I will fill in system specs as soon as I get the chance.

Assuming your power supply and video card are still among the living, I would turn the computer OFF, turn the power supply OFF,
then hold down the power button on the case for about 10 seconds to discharge all the capacitors.

Then, remove the video card.
Use a small artists paint brush or compressed air to clean any dust from the PCIe slot.
Reseat the video card, making sure it's completely seated and the clip has clicked into place.
Reseat the RAM, making sure it's completely seated and the clip(s) have clicked into place.
Attach the power supply wires, if any, making sure they are fully seated, and clicked into place.
Turn the power supply back ON. Then turn the computer back ON.

If the problem still exists. I would then try a different video card (if you have one), to see if it will work.
If a different vid card works, and the Zotac doesn't... then the Zotac has probably died.
If a different vid card doesn't work, then try a different PCIe slot...

The vid card should work in any of the slots in the BLUE box.
The top slot is the best to use, if it works.

I don't know what power supply you have, but it's probably modular.
If so... and if the Zotac uses power cable(s) from the power supply....
You need to make sure the connectors are tight on the power supply end as well.
There should also be 2 or more places on the power supply, to connect the vid card power cables.
If the one you're using doesn't work... try one of the other PCIe power connectors on the power supply end.

Windows 10 or 11, should SEE (detect), the video card, even without an Nvidia driver.
Windows should supply a generic driver, until you or Windows Update finds the proper Nvidia driver.

You have done about all you can to this point. All you can do now is try another video card, if you can barrow one or try yours in a different pc.

P.S. You didn't mention which card you have. It likely takes a power cable from the power supply. I fixed a similar issue by using a different power cable. My power supply is modular. If yours is too then you might try plugging the cable into a different socket on the power supply

Last but not least... Microsoft and Nvidia have gotten together to make our lives MORE difficult.

There are two types of Nvidia driver. DCH and Standard.
The Standard drivers are the ones that come "with" the Nvidia Control Panel.
The DCH drivers don't, and even think that the Windows display settings are... better. They aren't. :)

You can still get the Standard drivers, here...

Image1.png

Rumor has it, that Nvidia will no longer be creating NEW Standard drivers.
The newest "game ready" driver in this example is Sept. 2021.
It's version 472.12

Whether you use the DCH driver or the Standard driver, is up to you.
But I just wanted to post the link to the site that still has the Standard drivers.

I'm still using the Standard driver, version 456.71 with no issues.
But I don't play AAA, hot off the presses new video games, or do anything else that's... new. :)
Oh yeah... I also have an Nvidia Control Panel.

Where did you find that? Everything is as it has been for nearly 20 years, that I know of, on the NVIDIA website.

Oh, the latest game ready driver, for my RTX2070 Super, is 512.77 which came out on May 12, 2022. You might want to try using the NVIDIA website so you can get the latest drivers too.

Microsoft's interpretation of Display settings is ridiculous.

I don't WANT the latest drivers. I do WANT the Nvidia Control Panel.
Microsoft's interpretation of Display settings is ridiculous.

And god said unto Nvidia, "Let there be intelligent display settings"

I don't WANT the MS Store control panel.
I don't WANT the MS store Firefox.
I don't like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

MS aint the boss.png

Right now, the MS store seems very convenient, and it is.
One day though, when the MS store is the ONLY place you can get things... MS is gonna start charging for them.

And all the people that today are saying: "Oh that's neat, the MS store has it", will be the cause of MS gaining that monopoly.

I thought most folks learned this from DLC for games. :)

It's just like the drug dealers. "No, go ahead, you can have that joint for free".
Till the next time you want one. ^^

I thought most folks learned this with DLC for games. :)

"Ah yep sonny, I remember when Solitaire used to be free", now go get your mother to take you to the bank for your Solitaire loan".

I didn't dl the NCP from the store. When I go to the store, I can't dl it because it's already installed. Instead of "install", it says "open", which it does. Maybe you have it installed and haven't figured out how to open it? Click on the search icon and search for it in windows.

If it's not installed then just go to microsoft store, search and dl the nvidia control panel app. It's not the "microsoft" control panel. What's so inconvenient about that? It's no different than dl'ing anything from anywhere else. You are simply using the MS store instead of a browser to find it. How is access to a 3rd parties apps a monopoly? Nvidia not allowing MS to do that would be a monopoly. A monopoly on the part of Nvidia, not MS.

Since when do you have to pay for solitaire? It's still free for me to play. That's must be why your mother won't give you access to her credit card.

It seems to me that you just wish to place blame on MS and Nvidia for your refusal to do what you NEED to do to be able to do what you WANT to do. If you don't do it, then it won't happen. If anyone is to blame it's Nvidia for not including the CP with the drivers you installed. It's their app after all.

I do know how it works. I purposely chose NOT to let MS provide my Nvidia Control Panel.

Latest update on this:
So this morning I turn on the PC and there is no HDMI to the monitor even though it is still connected to the motherboards integral, so I swap over to the GTX 1080 and it's now working?? What's more under Display Adapters the 1080 is listed but the integral is not?I have no idea idea what is going on.

Unlike you I only have a video card. My CPU doesn't have a graphics part.
But you should probably check Nvidia Control Panel now...
