Odd White Blemish on LCD Screen

My 5 year old HP laptop has a 15" IPS display. I can see a small white diffuse smudge about 2mm across on the extreme right edge of the screen obvious on a grey background. There is nothing on the screen to see and oddly when I take a screen snip of the area there is nothing to see. Is this a problem with the pixels or backlight and is there a fix?

That would be a fault in the Display panel, possibly the edge white LEDs (backlight) or one of the other layers parting company like the backlight diffuser. AR coating layers etc.
Unless it is the top layer you would not see it as such on the screen surface.

The fact the screen snip shows nothing means the LCD layer/colour filter/pixel layers are OK.
My guess, sight unseen, would be dust between layers or small area unbonded.

The only fix would be to replace the Display panel.

Thanks. I now enclose a photo. It's only a minor problem and not worth the expense of replacing the panel.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

That at least proves the GPU if fine and points to a panel issue, whether that's a electronic fault in the panel or contamination in the layers is yet to be ruled out.

If the screen bruise doesn't distract enough to affect use of the machine, I'd keep using it as is. If it affects use, as cheap as a new screen is for that device, I'd install a new screen and keep on trucking?
