I woke up this morning and tried to get a document - my shortcut to the docs folder is there, but it's empty of all my docs

OneDrive was syncing files (without permission), and I was too scared to press cancel

How do I get the files all back to my user path?

The first thing you need to do is see if your files are in Onedrive on the web. Be sure to look in Onedrive recycle bin while you are there. If the files are in Onedrive recycle bin, restore them. Once you know the files are indeed on MS server, report back with what you find for further instructions..
Microsoft OneDrive

Also please RIGHT click on you documents folder. Tell us what folder location path is listed under the location tab. (or post a screenshot of it)

If they are not in Onedrive on the web, and if you do not have a backup of the files, they are most likely gone. In that case you only alternative if to contact Onedrive support to see if they can help you recover the files from their server.
