Been using OneDrive for years. Suddenly, yesterday morning I couldn't get into my files that are on OneDrive. Im using a Microsoft Surface Laptop 3. I can go online and access onedrive.live.com and I can see files in my recent onedrive history, but when I try to open them I get a "Sorry, something went wrong" error. When I try to log into Onedrive in the taskbar it says not connected and then asks for my email and then spins.

  1. Ive tried to unlink my account and relink, but theres nothing to unlink.
  2. I can log into my MS account no issue. Subscription is Up To Date.
  3. I am only using 129G of 1TB space
  4. Oddly, I also use the OneDrive app on my iPhone 12 mini and it is also not working. It wont open at all. Just immediately closes.
  5. Havent made any changes on my laptop
  6. Tried logging into one drive on a different iphone and got the same issue. App immediately closes when I try to log in.
  7. Windows is up to date
MI have years or videos and photos on my OneDrive and kinda nervous. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Did something change on your PC. Any password changes, particularly the Microsoft Account password?

Anway, if the issue persists, try unlinking by clicking the gear in OneDrive going to settings, and clicking "Unlink this PC". Then try signing into OneDrive again to see if that solves the issue.

Let us know.

If its 2 different devices, it's account related.
Check settings>accounts. Beside your name does it say you need to verify your account?
What happens when you login to to MS account. Microsoft account | Sign In or Create Your Account Today – Microsoft

What happens when you try to login to onedrive on the web? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjCxNqmr-iIAxV3BdAFHVZrLgwQFnoECB8QAQ&url=https://onedrive.live.com/login/&usg=AOvVaw0lMMY7ArdNab59uE2b6kr_&opi=89978449

thank for the reply. If I go into the app in the taskbar it shows OneDrive is grayed out with the line thru it. I click to sign in but it just spins. When I click settings theres nothing to unlink (see screenshot). When I click the unlink account link it does nothing but ask me to sign in. Which also spins when entering my email. See screenshot.

If I go online to OneDrive it shows my recent files (see screenshot) and it shows my account info profile. When I click on a file it gives me the error message. See screenshot.

update: you asked what happens when I login into my MS account? I am able to log in. I can see my subscription and profile information.

I checked. There's no indication Onedrive servers are having a problem as what that 3rd screenshot indicated.

You can try resetting Onedrive. Redirecting

If that doesn't work contact onedrive support. Start here. Contact - Microsoft Support.
You might have to fill in a search term like "Onedrive will not sync" At the bottom you should eventually see a button marked "Signin to contact technical support" It's been a while but I eventually got to a chat window. All in all- Office 365 support (which includes Onedrive) has been a positive experience for me. Much better than Windows support reps are.

Sounds like an issue with your OneDrive account. The fact that you have the same issues with multiple devices points in that direction. What is the question.

Since you have a OneDrive account under your Microsoft account (MSA) they would share the same password which also means when log into Windows, you're logged into OneDrive as well; however, there are instances where OneDrive will ask you to sign in individually as happened to me today. But that usually with new users or new installs.

Also concerning is the fact that you can't access the files online..... "when I try to open them, I get a "Sorry, something went wrong" error"

Given all above is why I think account issues. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling OneDrive (might not be an option for Surface laptops), that "might" solve the issue, but.... Another is to reset your password, but that could bring on a different set of issues especially if running Office 365, but that's another story for another time - point here is resetting your password affects all things attached to it. (Side note: still good idea to change passwords from time to time).

But, yeah, I'm thinking account issue.

thanks. I tried those steps and none of them worked. The only message I received was this popup. I'll have to try to generate a support ticket

One more piece of info. I went to OneDrive online and tried to create a folder in OneDrive to see if I could jump start it. I get an error that says "User content migrated. Cannot access disabled items". Just throwing that info out there in case that helps.

No away around it. You will have to contact Onedrive support about that. I'm wondering (I don't know for sure) if you had more data than the 5gb of free onedrive storage each MS account is given. That be the case you only had so long to either buy enough onedrive space to accomodate all your files or reduce your files to get below 5gb. I would have thought you would have been given notice, either thru email or a notification. Did you get notified in some way but ignored it?

I don’t, but I was able to log into my work MS account on my surface laptop and I am able to see my work OneDrive files.
So the problematic OneDrive account was your work account?

So the problematic OneDrive account was your work account?
No it’s my personal account that I can’t access. I tried to access a different MS account on my laptop to see if I could and I was able to.
