Accessibility Open Touch Keyboard in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to open the Touch Keyboard in Windows 11.

Windows 11 includes a touch keyboard you can click/tap on to enter text. This can be handy if you have a PC with a touchscreen without a physical keyboard.

Option One

Open Touch Keyboard when Tap Text Field


This option is only available if you have a tablet device with a touchscreen, no hardware keyboard attached, and have Show the touch keyboard when there's no keyboard attached turned on.


1 Tap where you want to enter text and the touch keyboard will open automatically.




Option Two

Open Touch Keyboard when Tap Text Field with Pen


This option is only available if you have a tablet device with a touchscreen, no hardware keyboard attached, and have When I tap a text field with my pen, use the handwriting panel or touch keyboard to input text set to When a physical keyboard isn't attached.


1 Tap with pen where you want to enter text and the handwriting panel or touch keyboard (last closed) will open automatically.




Option Three

Open Touch Keyboard from Taskbar System Tray Icon


1 Click/tap on the Touch keyboard icon on the taskbar system tray. (see screenshot below)

Option Four

Open Touch Keyboard in Settings


1 Open Settings (Win+I).

2 Click/tap on Personalization on the left side, and click/tap on Text input on the right side. (see screenshot below)

3 Click/tap on Touch keyboard to expand it open. (see screenshot below)

4 Click/tap on the Open keyboard button.

5 You can now close Settings if you like.

Option Five

Open Touch Keyboard from Game Bar


1 Open the Game Bar (:win:+G).

2 Click/tap on the Settings (gear) icon on the Home Bar. (see screenshot below)

3 Click/tap on Show keyboard in Settings.
