Yep... and even they provide instructions as listed in your quote of my post

Anyway, you seem happy with what you got so...

The 'More Settings' option isn't visible because that is only visible when I have the POP account set up, and as I said, Office Outlook won't let me set up a POP (or IMAP) account - it always fails to link with the Outlook.com server for some unknown reason whenever I try.
Sorry, I thought you got it to work by setting the account up manually. Only you said you could not 'remove deleted items from the Server'.

If that is the case, set up Outlook manually (as you did before) by specify the Ports manually in the Advanced Tab, then also select (tick)"Leave a Copy of Messages on Server" AND select (tick) directly underneath it, "Remove from Server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'". Then select OK.

It is just a suggestion. I think it covers everything you said.

If you still cannot connect to the Outlook server using POP3/IMAP, then work through this Microsoft online document on your local machine:

There is something strange at work here,

I had no issue with adding a Free Outlook.com account, a Gmail Account and a GMX.com account, using the IMAP system in Outlook 2019, part of the Office 2019 from the O365 package, this worked with the only thing required being my addresses, and my passwords for the three accounts. at all times the accounts were fully active as I added the later ones There was one slight hiccup when I entered the incorrect password for the GMX account ( it was a 30 Character random password :plead:  ) but that was fine when I corrected the password

Another possible issue a lot of people are going to have in Outlook is whether their online e-mail is set to two-factor authentication. Some providers (e.g. Yahoo...but Microsoft may do it too) actually require you to log in online and make "app passwords."

I didn't say it "needed" it. I said it might be a cause for some people's problems being unable to set up accounts in Outlook (app)....and a lot of people probably have online accounts set up that way. When I have set up my Microsoft Accounts in Windows or even Outlook, I've had to have my phone handy because when I enter my password it wants authentication (e.g. Microsoft Authenticator app on my phone or an e-mail). I also still have an old Yahoo Mail account that when I went to set it up in Outlook, it would refuse to create using my password. The only way I was able to get it to work was to log into Yahoo, go to Security settings and create an "app password," and then it worked. Neither NEED 2FA, but a lot of accounts are probably now configured for it, as it was pushed a lot to increase security.

Yes, that's true here as I have 2FA setup for my Microsoft Account. And yes, whenever I use my "Microsoft Account" 2FA kicks in. That's true.

For the Outlook desktop app, there is no 2FA needed as you're simply opening an app. Adding email accounts also require no 2FA as you're simply adding an account to an app. However, if the specific email account, ex: johndoeatfake.com requires 2FA, then that's that account, NOT Outlook.

If using Outlook online (outlook.com) with the same Microsoft account credentials using 2FA, then yeah, 2FA is required, but once that's done and you're in the app, you can add accounts without issue, again, assuming the account itself is not 2FA protected.

Notice though in both instances, it is your Microsoft Account that needs 2FA, and that this is done "before" you get to Outlook.

Now, if the accounts belong to an organization that uses Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) (school or business accounts), yeah, those may require 2FA verification - Common problems with two-step verification for a work or school account. In short, unless the account is a business or school account, there's no need for 2FA.

And outside a school or business account where the organization sets 2FA policy, you'll have to setup 2FA yourself; it's not automatic. Point, in one never setup 2FA, than it wouldn't kick it by itself. Example: I had to enable 2FA for my Microsoft account myself.

Also, it is an "active end user endeavor" to even try setting up 2FA for Outlook outside of active directory - Outlook client (desktop app) 2FA not working

Anyway, I've setup 4 email accounts on my desktop 365 Outlook app (3 IMAP, 1 Exchange school account). None requires 2FA, nor do I need 2FA to open Outlook.

At any rate the OP's issue has nothing to do with 2FA.

I agree with @Dru2 . Why set-up a pop when it's an imap automated solution. Just create and voilà!! I had a pop with pst. I like the imap better. Syncs well with cell phone. Pop & pst not the best.

What really gets my nerves rolling is trying to set-up an active sync account on 365 full Outlook. By standards it's a no go but there is a workaround

@Zardoc, not clear on what you mean here? Can you clarify?
What really gets my nerves rolling is trying to set-up an active sync account on 365 full Outlook. By standards it's a no go but there is a workaround

Thanks :)

@Dru2 Outlook doesn't support EAS

I have an EAS account that I want on my Outlook. So the only way the circumvent the problem is to manually create the account in the mail settings from CP. Once you have populated all the fields, press and hold the Enter button and press escape @ random.

You might have to try this a few times for it to work (which is a pain) but I always get it to work at the end. It will sync with other devices but when creating mail and saving it will only save on computer

I'm assuming EAS to mean Exchange Active Sync? Anyway, I'm nowhere near familiar with that service but...

They may or may not apply to your or your case. As I said, not familiar with the service at all

Thanks for the info.

This client isn't on the server so it's not running an EAS account from the server. If I install on windows mail (which BTW does support EAS) no problems. But the perks I want from the Outlook client aren't in Mail. So I have learned to live with it.

I detest web mail and dislike the mail app just as much. I'm still using the old Windows Live Mail that hasn't been supported in years. I have 2 Microsoft accounts, one set up as imap and another as pop without any problem at all. The same principals should apply using MS Office Outlook.

If using pop first enable pop in the email account – Outlook
· Select Settings > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Sync email.
· Under POP and IMAP, select Yes under Let devices and apps use POP.
· Select Save.

To set up account in Outlook
  • IMAP server name outlook.office365.com
  • IMAP port 993
  • IMAP encryption method TLS
  • POP server name outlook.office365.com
  • POP port 995
  • POP encryption method TLS
  • SMTP server name smtp.office365.com
  • SMTP port 587
  • SMTP encryption method STARTTLS

pop1.pngpop2.png

By the way, instead of attempting to change the settings within Outlook, I have had better luck deleting the account and starting over with correct settings. Somehow, it's brain gets scrambled when I change an existing setting..

The only I noticed when I changed mine was IMAP uses different ports to POP for my supplier and I found it hard to make Outlook 2019 accept the values

I love the desktop app, use the web app, and detest POP3 :)

Anyway, we know how to set it up and I posted that info on page 1, post 9. Also post 19

True, you did. But the ports for Outlook email when configuring a mail app are different than yours. I too much prefer imap over pop, but this particular account is set up as pop for a reason. It's set up in Live Mail on one computer and Thunderbird on another. These settings work in both.
