Windows 11 - Updated automatically
Quite frequently when writing an email in Outlook 365, I need to save its a a draft while I refer to some information I need. I'm not sure how it happens but I reload the draft, make the required additions/amendments and then find I can neither send nor save it because it has been amended. I usually get round this by starting a new email and cut and pasting the text from the original.
Like many things in Outlook, obviously an improvement I don't appreciate!

Hi Ian. Perhaps try saving it then closing it. When you’re ready to go back to it, open it from the drafts folder. (Double click should open it)
I have experienced this before. I’ll take a look at it in my morning, I can’t recall what the issue was.

I can't replicate this every time, sometimes I can edit a draft without popping out the email and others I cant.

When you click on the drafts folder and then an email, it isn't always able to be edited on the right without first opening the email (popping out) by double clicking on the email draft.

It's bad coding. Intermittent. The net is full of complaints about it as far back as Office 2016, maybe earlier.

The message that @Edwin has shown is the message I used to get. This may be a separate issue, I have had both issues..
For the message Edwin shows I found an answer on the internet… somewhere.

Perhaps, Ian, you're getting a different message or you just can't edit and you aren't getting any message at all.
Double clicking as above should hopefully solve that.

If I need to write a long email I tend to use Word or even Notepad in case the internet is lost. When finished it's very easy to cut and paste into an email.

If you find you can now edit the email but can’t send it, try removing then re adding the send to email address. Might work.

Outlook takes a fortnight, or, doesn't save it at all!!! 🤷‍♂️
Outlook is such a frickin dinosaur, glad I don't use it!

Don't get me wrong, Office is probably my most valued software, but, Outlook just doesn't float my boat!!! 🤷‍♂️

Hi Ian, Try keyboard CTRL + S keys to save.

Geriatric dinosaurs like some of us here have usually been using particular software for 20 years or more despite knowing it has problems and that there is better software out there. But they just can't face learning to operate a new app, or as we know it, software or program.

I've been an Outlook and Office user for decades and today I wouldn't be without my Microsoft 365 subscription which includes all of Microsoft Office and a Terabyte of OneDrive, a key component of my backup strategy.
