Outlook questions

I'm setting up a new laptop and am thinking seriously of using Outlook instead of Thunderbird due to some really annoying issues I'm having with it. I'm going to try it for a few days and see how I like it.

It did a pretty remarkable job of bringing over my two email accounts and my address book from Thunderbird, even though I'm not sure how it did that since I didn't do any kind of export/import process. If anyone can explain how that works, I'd be interested.

My real question though is about the Calendar. It doesn't seem to have copied over anything from my Thunderbird calendar so I'm having to put my appointments back in manually. (That's okay, there aren't very many.) However, I'm noticing that start and ends times are only to the nearest half hour, i.e. I can set 2:00 or 2:30 but nothing else within a given hour. Thunderbird lets me set the start and end times in 5 minute increments. Is there any setting anyplace that lets me set the Outlook Calendar to support times to the nearest 5 or 10 minutes? If so, where? I haven't found *any* settings in Outlook yet.

One other question: It looks like Outlook comes with Windows 11 because I didn't buy it. ft hasn't asked me for any money yet, which is ideal. However, I saw somewhere that this is a one year trial so it might not be around after that. Does anyone have more information on that?

It's true that the times in the drop-down list only show intervals of thirty minutes. However, after selecting the nearest times, you can manually change them by editing the times shown to the exact ones you require down to the nearest minute.

Regarding the calendar, you could have exported the Thunderbird data as a .ics file then imported it into Outlook. It's too late now because you've started manually adding calendar entries so importing anything now will give you duplicate events.

The Outlook app that comes bundled with Windows 11 is free and will probably stay that way forever.

Thank you, Secret Squirrel. I'm happy to see that I can edit the start and end times of appointments directly rather than using a workaround. I'm even happier to learn that this Outlook is not going to put it's hand into my wallet a year from now and demand money to keep using it.
:-)

The "Outlook" mail client that comes with Windows 11 was a few months ago called "New Outlook".

It is free, but comes with an ad line in messages unless you subscribe to some MS facility. It's not a trial.

If you want to suggest changes to Outlook > Help > Feedback > Make a suggestion.

Note that Outlook is no longer an app, it is a web app, basically URL shortcut.
As such, it needs Edge running at all times, which can cause various issues.
