Solved PC Crash and now refuses to read USB Recovery Drive

Accessed my PC this morning and it froze before crashing with the BSD and a kernal Missing error message. Now it refuses to reboot (continual circling dots) and won't respond to a USB recovery drive. What do I do next, please?

PS Unable to access any logs etc, sure you'll understand.

Explain what you are doing to get it try and access the recovery USB?

What sort of recovery USB i.e. how was it created?

Switch off power, switch on power with USB connected. USB not being read? Tried an old Windows 10 DVD recovery disk, still not reponding. USB recovery disc was created from within Windows system. System Disc is 500GB SSD,

You need to set or access the BIOS boot options. If you don't, then the system will just automatically try the existing internal drive, first up

Boot menu key(s) for ASUS desktop is either F8 or Esc

On Gigabyte motherboards, the F12 key will bring up the "Boot Menu".
The DEL key will take you into the BIOS.


The "Boot Menu" should look something like this...

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Not sure what I've done. but PC is now booting to Windows. (I unplugged the internal HDD, removed it to check visualy for damge. replaced it and it was OK) However, I have now suffered several BSD, always when copying files to a backup disc, and each time I received a System service Exception message. The PC boots back to exactly where it was previously - but with email accounts deleted, browser preferences removed etc. Backing up all the data wil take days at this rate. Hopefully I will soon be in a position to reformat the master disc and reinstall. eliminating the errors.

If you have access to another windows computer download Linux Lite and on a separate one create a Microsoft Media Installation tool. Burn them to two different flash drives, boot to 'Boot Menu', select the USB (flash drive) as primary and load Linux Lite. It runs on RAM not on your HD, the point is you will be able to access all your personal files and more rapidly transfer them (if they haven't been corrupted) to an external drive.
Buy an SSD to replace the failing HDD, insert your Installation tool, boot from the flash drive and reinstall Windows.
