When I was still using Win7 I had a PDF print driver (paid) and though I can't quite recall who supplied it they seem to be gone now. After I updated to Win7 I lost a critical function and cannot seem to find any clear direction on a reliable alternative. Basically printing a PDF that prints on company PDF letterhead in one easy step that merges the documents into a single doc.

I have our company stationery in PDF format as blank pages. I create price lists, etc. using Excel to get the layout I want and when it is time to publish the price list as a PDF I could "Print" from Excel and have the PDF print driver overlay the data on the stationery for a complete and professional document. There are so many PDF editors out there but I can't seem to find one that clearly says it does this. There may be other ways to achieve the same thing but this works for me and I was comfortable with it.

I don't mind paying for a piece of software that does this (though free is better). I downloaded one to try from the MS Store but once installed it wanted payment before I could even test it. Did not want to pay the fee then find out it doesn't work as I need it to.

Looking for help to narrow down the candidates and hope someone out there has experience with the same need.

Sorry but mark me disappointed. This does not offer the simple functionality I am looking for.

With the old app it was as easy as select print, the PDF printer driver, choose "overlay" and pick the file to overlay it.

I can't even begin to figure out what this app is doing on my computer but will be uninstalling it.

When you install PDF24 Creator, it AUTOMATICALLY installs a 'Print to PDF' driver, which you can select from other apps 1.webp- Word

Yes and that opened another "app" (possibly browser based?) that offered me a lot of things with no clear indication of how to get where I want.

My previous Print app worked seamlessly and within normal system dialogue boxes and did not seem to require any "outside" assistance. I'm sorry but that app was far too un-intuitive if it can actually do those things. It should be much simpler than it appeared to be.

The OP is looking for an overlay feature, not just a simple print to PDF.
Correct. Windows has a built in print to PDF. I need to print Word/Excel documents onto an existing PDF file that is our company letterhead. The app I had in Win 7 worked like a charm and was super easy. I tried to find the same for Win11 but the app I had does not appear to be available now.

I just checked the PDF program I've always used (PDF X-Change Editor) and found that overlay is in my free version as a demo feature (i.e. leaves a watermark). The pay version, of course, has the feature and does not leave a watermark. You could try the free version and see if the interface works for you. Here's the link:

I used use Mail Merge in Microsoft Word to combine a standard header with a mail list.

You might try Wondershare PDFelement to see if does what you want.

Google AI: Wondershare PDFelement mail merge
Wondershare PDFelement focuses on combining (merging) multiple files, images, or PDFs into a single document via the "Combine" tool rather than data-driven "mail merge" (filling forms from spreadsheets). It allows users to combine, rearrange, and save multiple files, and works on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.

Thanks but I know how Mail Merge works and that is not the function I am looking for in this request.

Would this work for you?
I have never tried this myself, I just did a Google Search using your question and AI came up with the below suggestion.

Creating a "One-Click" Action in Adobe Acrobat Pro allows you to automatically overlay a stationery (letterhead) PDF onto another document, saving significant time on repetitive tasks
. This is achieved using the Action Wizard to apply a watermark/background to documents.

How to Create the One-Click Stationery Overlay Action
  1. Open Action Wizard: Open Adobe Acrobat Pro, go to the Tools tab, and select Action Wizard.
  2. Create New Action: Click New Action in the toolbar.
  3. Add Tool: Under "Choose tools to add," navigate to Pages and select Watermark (or Background). Click the + button to add it to the right side.
  4. Configure Settings:
    • Click on Specify Settings (under the Watermark option).
    • Select Add New Watermark.
    • Choose File and browse to select your stationery PDF.
    • Set the opacity, scale, and position (usually center) to ensure it appears correctly over your text.
    • Crucial: Set the Page Range Options to only apply to the first page if your stationery is only for the cover, or all pages if necessary.
    • Optional: Uncheck "Prompt User" if you want the action to run automatically without asking for confirmation every time.
  5. Save the Action: Click OK, then Save. Name your action (e.g., "Apply Stationery").

Running the Action
  • Open the document you want to apply the stationery to.
  • Go to Action Wizard and click your "Apply Stationery" action under the list of available actions.
  • Click Start and then Save the file.
This process effectively merges your letterhead with the content document.
