Solved Personal Vault Shortcut

OneDrive is becoming a OneDive headache. First I noticed that the OneDrive cloud icon was no longer showing. Typing OneDrive in the search box and hitting enter brought it back. Now I can't get the Personal Vault shortcut to work in File Explorer. When I checked the properties it points to the shortcut in my local OneDrive folder. Neither short cut works. The Personal Vault on my online OneDrive is there and working. I have tried to find a way to create a new shortcut but all the suggestion I have found doing a online search no longer work. Does anyone know how to create a new shortcut? I'm in the proccess of downloading my files and folders to a external HDD in case I make a major mistake trying to get my OneDrive working the way it should. I know they are on my local drive but I want to be extra cautious and backup the actual files and folders directly from OneDrive.

Thanks for letting me know it still does that. That "free" 1TB I never use with my Office 365 really isn't missed at all.

Edit: I think MS and OneDrive are trying drive me crazy. I made the shortcut you posted and it worked. I only went as far as the first screen. Out of curiosity I tried the old shortcut in File Explorer and it worked.

I've used OneDrive for over 18 years. The one simple thing that people don't seem to get is that OneDrive does only one thing and does it well. It keeps everything in your local OneDrive folder in real-time sync with cloud OneDrive. Make a change in a file in your local OneDrive folder, it makes the same change in cloud OneDrive. Delete a file in local OneDrive, it deletes the same file in cloud OneDrive. Create a file in cloud OneDrive, it creates the same file in local OneDrive. Everything in your local OneDrive folder is always in total real-time sync with cloud OneDrive. Quite simply, that's why OneDrive is so valuable. It keeps a real-time exact copy of everything you work on locally in cloud OneDrive.

1) yes you’ve told us a million times how long you’ve been using it. Congratulations.

2) this response has nothing to do with the issue in OPs thread. Reads more like a paid ad or bot response.

@dacrone I was next going to explain how the Personal Vault works. If no one is interested, I will just go back to watching how everyone struggles with OneDrive simply because they don't know how it works.

In my experience with OneDrive, if you simply delete the shortcut to the Personal Vault, OneDrive restores it correctly.

I'll keep that in mind in case it happens again. I'll probably never know why but it would be great to know why the shortcut in File Explorer stopped working until after I created the new shortcut.

Yeah, but, innocently or ignorantly uninstall OneDrive and you're fecked!!!
It's just wrong! Mirroring is one thing, obliterating your local files is just wrong!

Definitely true. Microsoft didn't think through their implementation of OneDrive Backup. It's caused a lot of headaches and even data loss. It never should have happened.

But it's also true that if you understand how OneDrive works it isn't a problem.

You're right though, you can't assume people will learn and understand.

Maybe they did and wanted to almost "trap" people into using this function... They have had a long time to remedy these faults, but have done nothing as far as I can see.

The number of posts on here with people having problems with Onedrive clearly supports the view that it is fundamentally flawed for the average user.

its just flawed. simple as that. only caveat is that experienced users know how to take the necessary precautions to avoid these flaws.
