Personalization Problem

I am having a problem with Background Personalization on Windows 11 Pro. The only way I can get Background Personalization to pull pictures out of a ‘My Pictures’ folder is to be connected to an internet radio show with Windows Media Player. If I am not connected to a particular internet program, background personalization defaults. Background Personalization starts pulling pictures from all sorts of places at random. In no sensible order. Completely ignoring my folder of choice. Does this make any sense? Do you think there is a solution? Advice? Suggestions?

When having an issue with something identifiable I turn that something off, if it's coming from the Internet I disconnect and go through trying to figure out the problem. If a program can be identified I Uninstall it, if problem gone reinstall it. I like to use a couple of Themes from the Store.

Thank you for taking an interest in my problem. Unfortunately, I have tried uninstalling Window Media Player. Didn't work. Not the remedy for my issue.

Not sure that this would help, but I always use this instead of the newer background property settings. It works so much better for me.

Are you able to setup the slideshow like so in Setup > Personalization > Background?

Screenshot 2024-01-18 144657.png

I have the slideshow set to get images from my H:\Pictures\Wallpaper\1920x1080 folder and change them every 1 minute.

If I right click on the desktop I can select Next desktop background to change them at any time.

You can disable/uninstall Windows Media Player Legacy in Windows Features:

Near as I can tell, Windows Media player is not installed on my desktop. I have to download a copy every AM and listen to the connected radio station. Doing so make personalization pull images from my folder of choice. How do you pull pictures from H:? I have a C: drive and a D: drive.

To see if Windows Media Player is installed or not, check Windows Features or type Windows Media Player into the Search bar on your taskbar.

If it is installed, the first result will be a link to it. It will show app underneath the title.

Click on Browse (shown in the image I posted) and go to your Wallpaper folder (My Pictures), wherever that may be and use that. Note, that your wallpaper folder can only contain image files, any folders inside that location will be ignored.

If you don't have a H:\ drive then obviously you cant get anything from there, I do have a H:\ drive so that is why I use it.

I am not sure what program you think you are downloading, but clearly you are not installing it, if you have to download it every morning. It sounds more like a web app to me.

My advice is to stop doing that, at least temporarily, until you sort out the background image issue.

Then, the next time you download/open whatever app it is, check for desktop background settings and disable them in the app if you can.
