I'd like some ideas on getting a new cpu cooler to replace the stock cooler that came with my cpu.

Here are the stats:
1) Motherboard - 2024 MSI MAG B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI
2) CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6 Core AM5 5.3GHz CPU
3) Case - SilverStone Fara R1 Pro V2 Tempered Glass ATX Case

Any suggestions?

Thanks. I'll look at those links.

How did you find out that I have 161 mm clearance? This is the first computer I've built so I'm just learning about things like that. In fact, I literally just started reading tonight about how to that kind of thing. I didn't need to do that before because of the cpu / cooler package.

Well, you have a SilverStone case. So I looked at the specs of that case on the SilverStone website.

If you scroll down a bit, you will find the case specs...

Basically you need to measure the space for the Cooler and it's fans.
Then you need the dimensions of the Cooler including fans.

1. Top clearance.
2. RAM modules, how close they are, their height. To that end I used Low Profile modules.
3. Are the Cooler fans moveable a bit to avoid RAM modules heatsinks.
4. Any other item that might get in the way, depends on a particular MOBO and PC box and fans etc.

Wouldn't the larger cpu air coolers would actually cause a barrier for air closer to the front of the case to move out of the case? I'm sure this doesn't happen because I see so many large coolers for sale. But walk me through the logic please.

The fans of tower type coolers move a lot of air. You'd want to orient them so that the flow is in the same direction as that from the case fans.

(I've been using all-in-one water coolers for a few years. My current CPU can use 350W, at stock settings, which almost dictates a water cooler.)

    Originally bought for my youngest quine to use at university, but her path is unwinding in a different direction, so I've duly snaffled it.

Noctua coolers are pretty much universally highly regarded. But others (Thermalright, for example) may give similar performance at a much lower price. Whether that applies in the Southern hemisphere, I have no idea.

But if you buy Noctua, the pain of losing a few extra dollars may be fleeting. Some don't like the trademark color scheme of their high-end fans, though. I'm using a number of their "redux" fans, which are a) cheaper and b) gray. ;-)

Beige used to be the indoor paint color recommended by realtors in the US a few years ago. It's off the list now.

Brown reminds me too much of what I often stepped in at my grandfather's dairy farm when I was a kid. (The stuff the cows dropped was usually darker than Noctua brown, I admit.) ;-)

The logic of a large CPU cooler is that it dissipates more heat from the CPU. Thus a high TDP CPU requires a higher capacity tower cooler which is larger and two fans.
The TDP and the cooling required is a consideration as to what CPU you buy.

It is the job of Case fans to move hot air out of the case, which includes hot air from the CPU cooler, whilst keeping a positive pressure inside the case to minimise dust ingress from case ventilation holes/grids etc.
To that end usually requires more input fans than output fans.

"Wouldn't the larger cpu air coolers would actually cause a barrier for air closer to the front of the case to move out of the case?"
To an extent, hence the use of fans on the top of the case.

Basically you need to measure the space for the Cooler and it's fans.
Then you need the dimensions of the Cooler including fans.

1. Top clearance.
2. RAM modules, how close they are, their height. To that end I used Low Profile modules.
3. Are the Cooler fans moveable a bit to avoid RAM modules heatsinks.
4. Any other item that might get in the way, depends on a particular MOBO and PC box and fans etc.
