Prime95 is commonly used (by overclockers), for stress testing computers
But anyone can use this program to check computer stability.
Make sure you have a current backup, which can be accessed even if Windows won't boot.
If your computer is unstable, this program will trigger that instability.

To use Prime95 for stress testing
Extract the contents of the .zip file to a folder on your desktop.
Double click Prime95.exe to run the program.
When asked, choose: Just Stress Testing, then click: OK
This will start the "stress testing".
To stop the program, just click on Test > Stop at the top left corner.
Then, right click and choose: "exit" from the tray icon.
Prime95 stresses the CPU, RAM, power supply, and cooling.
Until you know how your computer will respond, leave Prime95 set to the defaults.
Prime95 will generate a lot of heat in your system.
Use a "real-time" program like HWInfo or AIDA64, to monitor your temperatures.
Choosing: Small FFT's, (before clicking OK), puts the "most" stress on your computer.
Ideally, Prime95 will not crash, and you will know your computer is stable.
Sometimes, Prime95 will crash, and you may experience corrupted Windows files.
