Problem with a NVMe drive

I just highly doubt that anything USB can be better in terms of boot up speed.
What is your boot up speed (in seconds)?
You probably need to check your start up apps and disable some of them to improve your boot up time.

Yes mate I have tried all the usual stuff like start up apps etc etc but the boot time stays at around 50-60 seconds depending on whether the boot selection has been changed as the machine has a mind of it's own at times.

I tried a couple NVME enclosures but settled on the Plugable USB C to M.2 NVMe Tool-free Enclosure. It is not cheap but is ideal if you want to easily swap out M.2 SSDs because it is tool-free. I hate messing with those little screws.

I tested a couple M.2 NVME SSDs with CrystalDiskMark. The highest the temp got was 54C.

1 minute boot up is not all bad for that build. You have nothing to worry about. But at least you satisfied your curiosity.

Not exactly mate because one of the components is obviously defective but as soon as I get a replacement I shall try again.
