Solved Problem with Motorola Phone

I know this is a Windows BBS, but it just might be a windows problem.

My wife got a Motorola razr+2023 from our son (hand me down). She likes it because when you close it, it is halve the size of an Iphone. I am trying to set it up by transferring all her pictures and contacts (157) to the moto. There are some “switch phone apps” out there. The problem is that this phone is not recognized by windows. If I plug in my Iphone, I hear a sound and it shows up in File explorer and it is also seen in “I CareFone Transfer”. When I plug in the moto nothing happens. The phone will charge, so the cable should be OK, but windows will not show it. So, is there a setting in either windows or Moto that will make it show on my computer?

Plug your Motorola in and check Windows update
If nothing shows up, go to the following page
Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates
Check for any drivers

Failing that, install Motorola Device Manager.

when you connect the moto to the computer check the top bar notification area
tap the USB 'charging only' notification and then set it to 'file transfer'
the system should now be able to connect to the phone.

edit. also ensure the cable you are using is a data/charging cable
and not just a charging cable.

If you want to do much more with it other than play jump rope with the USB cable, you really should install the drivers, for Windows.

In your Motorola phone Settings search for "Smart connect" and "Get started". The Smart Connect app can pair with your PC. I had used it to pair with my Desktop longtime back but now I have forgotten all about it.

the charging cables are normally very thin and when you connect them to a computer they just go in to charge mode with no other options. the data/charging cables are a lot thicker and will give you options in the notification area.

just a thought.
do you have Google drive.
because you can upload the pictures to Google drive
then download the pictures to the phone.

Any charging cable will transfer files, but at a low USB 2.0 speed. However, most USB-C ports in phones only support USB 2.0, so it may not matter.

You need to do whatever is comfortable for you.

I watched this video, apparently universal for all Motorola phones (Android)
The only difference would be, to get images etc from your PC to the Motorola, you would copy files from your PC and them paste them to the appropriate folder on your phone.
Basically reverse of what he explains.

This is a short video with no annoying music or gimmicks, just straight to the point directions. 3.30 sec
