Windows 11
One of the things I always do is turn off any unneeded apps that load at start up (that slow down my initial boot up). I've been about 90% successful, but there are a few stragglers that just don't seem to obey the settings.

At first boot, I loaded the Task Manager, and took down a list of anything that was loaded (that I know I have turned off in either the Windows 11 start up settings or msconfig). But there are some problem childs that keep loading.

I want these to wait until I invoke them (not load automatically). Any help on what services or settings I need to disabled would be very helpful.

Autoruns is a great utility for preventing apps from loading at startup. You can download it at the site listed below;

I've been having some sucess on the other apps in my list above, using Revo Uninstallers Autorun Manager, and using the method describe to set them to "Never run in background." But I had a question about your Winaero suggestion...

I see on their site, it has a screenshot regarding this setting. It looks like this will stop the update from actually happening, but will that also prevent the Microsoft Edge Updater process from loading at start up and appearing in the Task Manager? That is what I'm trying to target.

ok. was going to suggest you can just disable edge completely, but if you want to use it.. there are many ways to disable edge updates. if you want to manually turn on/off the capability, you can use the reg keys from the following link. just export the current one that has updates enabled, then change it to disabled and export that key. from then on you can just run the enable/disable reg keys to be able to update or disable updates for edge.

Thanks. So this will kill the update process that also loads at start up, so it's not sitting my Task Manager? Again, I have turned it off in virtually every other way possible, but it's persistent.

Can’t guarantee it, as I disabled Edge completely. But if it can’t update, I’d assume the updater wouldn’t run. Even if it did, it wouldn’t consume any resources as it wouldn’t be able to process any updates.

I have the EDGE updater blocked in the Bitdefender firewall...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe

But it still shows up in Task Manager (Background processes), after the computer's started. :/
But the last time... msedge.exe was updated was Oct. 16th 2022.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
Thanks all, will take a closer look at some of these and follow up if needed. Much appreciated.
