Solved Puzzling new message: Firefox not found (from taskbar)

Ran script. No change. It left me with an open Disk Cleanup window (not Admin) and I tried running it as it was set and then choosing System files and running it again. Nada.

Sorry could you expand the whole key from firefox.exe , please and screenshot again, or if it's easier export the reg key and send it to
OAT_TEMP@caramail.com

right click firefox.exe /export/save as.
I need to see what is under Open, Shell etc.

No, sorry that is the SupportedTypes key, I wanted firefox.exe (the whole key)
also highlight Shell
also highlight Open


Believe me it might be worth it.
Easier to send me the key right click registry key firefox.exe /export/save as .reg file

OK. Now (apparently) fixed. I Googled "Windows can't find firefox.exe" and got some interesting stuff.

At Cannot open FF: Windows cannot find C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe and no current solutions working | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support, I found this suggestion:

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options and delete any "debugger" subkeys.

Exported the main key, then took out the only debugger I found (down a couple of subkeys under FEOptions), and Firefox shortcuts and icons and taskbar items suddenly WORKED.

Anybody know why???

That is what I was looking for!!!!!

Ccleaner did that on many of my programs after a run. Most of them under D:\Program Files
It took me a long time to find out and the word DEBUGGER- in caps - did not come back to me.
I deleted ccleaner a year ago.

Debugger key under any exe is used to attach a debug. It basically will launch the debugger which then launches the original process. It can also be used as a way to launch a non existent program and break execution

I am so glad Dan, I wouldn't have given up on that one as I knew what it was.
Just could not remember the key entry.

You seem to have a problem that "could" involve either FF or the Taskbar itself.
Granted I would think that if it was the Taskbar it would involve more than just the FF icon.

BUT... we know that EDGE is trying to "take over". So it's hard to tell.

As I said... I would remove then reinstall FF, first.
Here's my topic with all the FF tweaks that I or a lot of others have found...
