For me one very unwelcome recent change in Windows 11 was that scalable icons disappeared in Windows Home, replaced with tiles. Is there any indication Microsoft plans to fix this issue, or are we just stuck with it?

Thanks!

Which icons? Does right-click of the Desktop and View with different icon sizes listed not work? Also involved is the the Display Settings function on that menu and/or the Personalize settings. They're about the same as in Win10.

The only way I've found is the Display Settings but it's a global change, affects everything and relies upon what the graphics adapter and its drivers can handle. Check the Custom Scaling, my Notebook is set for 150% but Custom shows it can go to 500% but might not be too good on a 14" screen.

Do Option 1 step #3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 here... this will bring back the Windows 10 Context menus

Like so...

Image1.jpg

It will also bring back the other classic Context Menus also...

On these forums, there's a tutorial for.... everything.
I collected the ones most commonly requested in the Windows 11 Tweaks - Leader Board link above.

Start using backup software (if you aren't already).
On Win 11, it'll be your safety net.

Win 10 is pretty stable... now. But MS is still playing around with Win 11. They like breaking things.

On the right, is MS and their antics.
On the left, is how we have to react to MS's antics...

OK thanks. Yes I know about backup. I tried this and it still gives me permissions errors. Are you sure changing the context menus will bring back large icons?

It will bring back the option to choose... the icon size.

The drop down menu at the top is what I see when I click View in File Explorer.
The context menu at the bottom, is what I see when I right click on a blank space in File Explorer and choose: View

I don't know why your comp is doing that.
Are you running some 3rd party Tweaking program, or 3rd party Anitvirus?

Maybe try one of the other Options in the tutorial?

OK, I finally got the registry change to work through the command line. The old context menu is back, but the view menu in Home still has the view options as tiles or content only. This is something that has been complained about a lot in various discissions. There is no longer any option for icons of any size.

OK, I finally got the registry change to work through the command line. The old context menu is back, but the view menu in Home still has the view options as tiles or content only. This is something that has been complained about a lot in various discissions. There is no longer any option for icons of any size.

I used one of the other tutorials to remove Home... and Quick Access.

What do you see when you click... Show > ?

And what do you see when you right click, where it says... Right click here, in this pic?

I can see large icons on MyComputer fine. This is what shows in Show> . It's been this way since the update to 23H2.
