Thunder tends to wake me up and keep me awake. 4th of July fireworks don't help me sleep either. Or the sounds of a gun range, or an atomic proving ground. I think it has something to do with silence and anticipation followed by earth-shattering noise.

I don't know where you live but thunder and lightning needs hot and cold air to combine. The combo that creates thunder storms can also create tornados. When it comes to white noise I would prefer the sound of rain on a tin roof before I would want to hear thunder.

I don't mind the thunder as much as I do the lightning. When I was working full time in publics works, I had to work outside no matter what the weather was. Many of times during bad weather I would tell my wife I love you and will be home whenever. Snow storms where the worst. Sometimes we would work past our allowed hours then be sent home to get a couple of hours of sleep and go back and do it again. Snow plowing is very stressful. When you start out you wear warm clothing and have the truck heater on high. After an hour or two you find yourself taking off your warm clothing and winding down the window because you are sweating your butt off.
