ram question

hey all looking for some advice,I'm running a fairly new system,only got it in late dec last year,cpu is Intel Core i7-12700F the current ram is 16GB DDR4 3200MHz and the motherboard is a GIGABYTE B660 DS3H DDR4 (rev. 1.0) : LGA1700, DDR4, USB 3.2,a friend has given me the am out of his old hp system,it's two sticks which as far as I can make out are Samsung 8GB PC3-12800U,I was just wondering,would it possible to use them on this system? I'm not the best at modifying etc,I'm good enough with adding a hard drive but that's it,I just wondered if they would work

No use to you, they won't fit anyway, it is DDR3. Your MOBO only takes DDR4.

DDR3 won't fit your board as they are keyed differently as shown by this article - DDR4 differences and advantages over previous generation modules.

Will it / could it work / perform? I don't know. I I've no desire to modify the slots to try it. Buy they are keyed differently for a reason, so...

You may be disappointed if you hope to get much money for them.

The memory support list for your motherboard is linked below. You are best to get some ram from this list of ram that Gigabyte has tested with your board.
