Solved Ram speed for intel i14700k

i have a ram i ordered that is 6000mhz speed . i know intel supports up to 5600mhz should i put it to that speed or will the 6000mhz speed xmp be ok.
Also this ram is supported on my motherboard the 6000mhz stick from kingston . Have i gone too high with the 6000mhz?

How much going up to 6000 mhz DDR5 ram will improve performance of your PC depends on many things including what your primary usage is.

The fastest DDR5 RAM that Intel officially supports for the I7-14700K is 5600MHz.

Anything above that is regarded as overclocking. It's possible that Intel could give you a hard time about that should you ever need to do a warranty claim on the CPU. (I know that from bitter personal experience.) If I had to pursue warranty support again, I'd have to wrestle with my conscience whether to inform Intel of the frequency of the RAM I used.

Your motherboard is spec'd up to 7600MHz. 6000 isn't radical.

How many DIMMs are you using? Some DDR5 that is on the approved list for 1 or 2 DIMMs isn't guaranteed for 4.

There is this. I agree by and large with the conclusions reached. Techpowerup also have done extensive performance scaling testing of DDR5 ram with both Intel and AMD CPU's and reached similar conclusions.

Hi Bobkn it is 64gb 2 dimms. so will run duel channel

i agree but the sticks i have 5600 mhz was not on the motherboard support list and the cas was 42 while this ram 6000mhz is cas 30

So that is why i bought this ram as i had abit of issue with this ram not much but every few weeks bios boot failure. bios may not be compatible with current hardware state. so with that warning and the ram not on the qvl list that maybe the issue for that .

Finding the right ram that also on the support list is sometimes an issue.. I'm conservative when purchasing ram because when I built my current desktop PC last year, I had a nightmare for months getting it to run stable because of two faulty sets of Corsair DDR5 ram. I eventually got some Corsair Dominator Platinum 5600 ram which for me has been very good.

If it's 2X32, and the DIMMs are on the QVL as a dual-channel pair, you should be good.

There may be a lot of RAM that hasn't been tested by Gigabyte. Some makers (Kingston and G. Skill, as examples) maintain their own compatibility lists.

You should be OK with that combination but I would run some memory integrity programs to make sure it is stable at XMP speed. At that low of a frequency it should be I would think.

If you have the model number of the RAM could you post it?

It's on the QVL at 6000MHz, 2 DIMMs. Nice. It even supports both XMP and EXPO (the AMD equivalent of XMP).

Your worries are unjustified.

In case you don't know, it's likely that you'd have to enable the use of XMP in the MB's BIOS settings. When you first start up, the machien may wake up at a lower default RAM frequency.

One warning: the first time you boot up a PC with DDR5 RAM, there appears to be some sort of calibration process performed. That can take minutes to run. Don't be alarmed. After that, the machine will boot up much more quickly. If you enable XMP, the PC will run the calibration again on the next boot. (One time.) I find that the calibration is redone at times, but I haven't tried to figure out whether it's as simple as counting the number of startups.

DDR5 systems may require training

A small number of DDR5 systems and motherboards require a period of "training" newly installed memory to work with the system and allow access to the UEFI, or otherwise to complete the system's power-on self-test (POST).

i will stick with xmp 1. if i experience issues will go to xmp 2.
I have the sticks in now and it booted with no issue unlike last time and it is synced the ram rgb to the gigabyte control panel.
