Random Blue Screen - Possible Driver Issue

I have an HP Desktop that is experiencing random crashes. In device manager, I found that the "HP Application Driver" has the following error "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".

I suspect that this could be my problem, but I can't find this driver anywhere so that I can reinstall it. I didn't want to uninstall it through device manager since I'm unsure of what the effect would be.

Any suggestions?

You could try HP Support Assist and and see if you can get it to scan and fix driver issues.

I didn't want to uninstall it through device manager since I'm unsure of what the effect would be.

Create a restore point or a system backup

  1. Open Device Manager
    Press Windows + X → choose Device Manager.
  2. Find the HP Application Driver
    Look under System Devices, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, or where the error appears.
  3. Uninstall the Driver
    • Right-click on the device with the yellow triangle → click Uninstall device.
    • If prompted, check Delete the driver software for this device.
  4. Reboot your PC
    Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically on restart.

I’d try the HP Support Assist first.

Thanks for the help! The driver issue looks like it's fixed. I'll have to wait and see if that solves the crash issue.
