Hey,
Just thought I would share these windows screenshot tools-Lightshot & Flameshot. Both are free with windows. I know Flameshots url is www.flameshot.org. As for lightshot, I cannot remember the url for the program. Here is a breakdown of features:

What do you all think? Which programs are better in this field? Flameshot or Lightshot?

I'll have to check them out. To be honest, whatever app that has the best/most functions for after shot annotation / stamping is what I most look for.

I found both to be lacking in functions for after screen capture editing. Also, both editors appear on the screen before the capture is saved. There was very limited functions and changing elements drawn on a capture seemed non existent.

The app I am currently using makes these things easy, I had to stare at both of these to work out how to do something. I realize it's a learning curb but to be honest, the minute I installed my current proffered app, it was just obvious what to do. Anything more in depth I had to learn.

Also, Lightshot had registry conflicts upon installing. Hotkey issue, which is fine, but hotkeys should be set after install, not during. The install should at least ask first.

I didn't want to name anything adverse to what the thread is about, but ShareX is currently my choice..

Some apps just click, I don't know why an individual proffers one over the other.
My current proffered can accommodate actions. So when I have save the capture it will automatically open it in any other app, like Photoshop, Paint, Screenpresso for extensive editing.

I found nothing similar in either of these apps

Well tbh these are screenshot apps while it seems your proffered app is more than just screenshots.

Not really. My proffered has a screen capture editor, so do Lightshot & Flameshot. These two just not as extensive that's all.
But for what they do, it's a quick process as long as you don't need anything too extensive
The one I use just has more functions as a bonus. The two in review are lightweight and that's all some people need?

I guess I am old school. I use Snipping tool for capture and Paint.NET for editing after the fact. I like doing it that way as I have far more control over the finished product. I found the capture utilities I have tried to be a bit lacking in the editing department. Paint.NET gives me a much richer set of tools.

And while we are on the topic of screen capture. If you like to capture a picture and temporarily share it with someone, or a web forum, try Gyazo. It allows you to snap a pic and upload it to a website for other people to view. You have to give them the link, so not everyone can see it. It has its uses, but has no editing.

Back when PrintSc + Paint was the default screen capture tool within Windows - I discovered FastStone Capture Free - as a superior alternative. Version 5.3 (32 bit) is still free and packed with enough options to compete with other alternatives - despite being released in 2007. Latter on (many years - i suppose) I discovered ShareX - which proved to exactly what i needed as a Video Recorder (could even record to Gifs), and has a pretty decent Screenshot tool as well - but it's just not as practical as FastStone. And while seeing they kept improving FastStone in so many ways and keep on trying to improve it -this being the latest Version: 10.6 (July 10, 2024) - decided to but it since it comes with a Lifetime License at 20$ (call me old school - but i miss software which keeps getting improved while having a Lifetime License). It's fully Portable too. Also comes with a neat Image Draw tool- designed specifically for Screenshots, but i also used it couple of times to create some quick Presentations (since it's practical, intuitive to use and really fast). But hey, trying it is the best way to get a better idea of what it can actually do - or if it's what you've been looking for...

FastStone Screen Capture - The Best Screen Capture Software

Anyway, if i'm interested in a quick Screenshot - which i won't bee editing - i'll just use PrintSc aka Snipping Tool. Which i admit - it's pure laziness, especially since it's slower than FastStone - so it takes about the same time to do the same thing.

There's always one or two features in each capture tool that's a must have...,
there's also one or two quirks in each capture tool, and that makes me keep them all!

My order for productivity and preference:
• ShareX
• Greenshot
• FastStone
• Screenpresso
• Paint
• Snagit

Others:
• Affinity Photo

And, Picasa is still my Image Manager!!!
