Apps Re-register Microsoft Store app in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to re-register Microsoft Store app for your account or all users in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Microsoft redesigned the Microsoft Store from the ground up in Windows 11, making space for more content, keeping the user experience simple and responsive. It will help you discover and install the best apps, games, movies and even special offers – like unique movie discounts for Xbox Game Pass members. All the content in the Microsoft Store is tested for security, family safety and device compatibility.

If the Microsoft Store app doesn't open, hangs, or not working correctly, then re-registering it will usually fix the issue.

Make sure that you have the correct time zone, date, and time set to avoid the Microsoft Store app having syncing issues.

Option One

Re-register Microsoft Store app for Current User


1 Open Windows Terminal, and select Windows PowerShell.

2 Copy and paste the command below into PowerShell, and press Enter. (see screenshot below)

Get-AppXPackage *Microsoft.WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

3 When finished, you can close Windows Terminal if you like.

Option Two

Re-register Microsoft Store app for All Users


You must be signed in as an administrator to use this option.


1 Open Windows Terminal (Admin), and select Windows PowerShell.

2 Copy and paste the command below into PowerShell, and press Enter. (see screenshot below)

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers *WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

3 When finished, you can close Windows Terminal (Admin) if you like.

Is there also a way to re-install the Microsoft Store? It has a weird behavior on two of my machines that the Store starts first as preview and after closing and opening it again, it starts correctly. I first realized it because as preview, it will not retain the correct window size. The command "wsreset" and the App settings were no help here.

Hey mate, :-)

The line code option allows you to just click on the code to copy it to your clipboard to make it easy to paste.

Regular code box looks better, but you have to manually copy the code with a change of a mistake being made while copying.

Thank you for your quick response. Yep. I keep apps on all devices updated (I check too often a day) and out of four devices two have the issue, the actual incompatible tablet and a Mini-PC have no issues, but my two desktops.

As a routine I run every few weeks (especially after patch days) "Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ; sfc /scannow" or "For %I IN ( C: D: ) do chkdsk %I /spotfix" on all devices and while checking for updates I was wondering why the Store had a wrong window size until I saw that the UI of the Store seems to switch between the current one and the old preview one. (For a better picture of what I am talking about I added two screenshots, the top left corner of the Store shows the difference aside from the window size)

Under "Security and Maintenance" there is no error related to an update, but that could mean not much since I already did an in-place repair a few weeks ago but the annoyance got not resolved.

No. I tried already a reset with the Settings app and now I tried the PowerShell command, but in both cases the preview UI of the Store keeps appearing which should have been removed with an update before the release of Windows 11.

As of IDK the most recent update maybe?..IDK. Anyway I can open the Microsfot store (I am logged in) and i go to updates and ALL of them say "Something happened on our end" I cant update any of them. I have Surfshark VPN and thats it. Otherwise I have a brand new PC build that works flawless so that aint it but I ran the Powershell code you have here and this is what i get??? I cant get the Store to update and I have tried everything. It was working last week. And No I am not going to uninstall the last update. My pc runs perfect except for the Store issue. Anyone have any Ideas? and please none that require say a repair install or new install ect...I just want my apps to be able to update..and running the Microsoft store troubleshooter says I need to turn on UAC.. like really..I always have UAC off and the apps used to update. Oh yes and before I forget..I use UltraUxThemePatcher, 7tsp and themes from Niivu on Deviantart. I know ive had issues in the past where if I had the system patched for theming the store wouldnt let me download any apps. IDK if this is the issue. Because in the past if I run the DISM and SFC scans it UN-patched my system then i would restart my computer and Bam Microsoft Store worked...that is the Only thing I havent tried yet but I would like other peoples opinions and experiences with this. It appears one of those theme software may have modified a system file causing this.

You could test by running SFC to see if the Store will work again like before. You can create a restore point before doing this to go back to if needed.

Ty will do. I actually remember ive doen that before and it fixes the files then I restarted my computer and the store worked again but I also remember those commands didnt work. so when I restarted my PC I then just repatched my system with the UltraUxThemePatcher again since even after the store didnt work. Ill see what happens.
