Ok, First question, how do I minimise the taskbar ?......tried settings--personalization--taskbar behaviors........but there is no option to make the taskbar smaller.....any ideas ?

As FreeBooter noted, this will need a third-party app. Windows 11 took away the ability to resize the task bar. It used to be that you could just grab the top of the taskbar and drag up or down to increase or decrease the size. Why that was taken away I have no idea.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

When you say smaller, I think of smaller taskbar icons. For that, at the moment, you’ll need a 3rd party app.

I believe you can do it for free with either Vivetool.
Or Windhawk, after you install Windhawk.

I'm guessing that "dragging the taskbar" bigger or smaller, must have confused those ever-swiping smart phone/tablet users. :D

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
I use a 24" monitor with the Display Scaling set at 150%. If I set the Scaling to 100% the Taskbar becomes much smaller.

I am not the OP, but I just looked for help making my taskbar disappear and came across this post. THANK YOU ANTSPANTS!!!!!!!!! FWIW, IMHO, "automatic" is not the right word. The taskbar will not appear and disappear in response to some indication of a need to see it. But if you place the mouse pointer on the very bottom of the screen then it will "automatically appear". Better terminology, again IMHO, would be "on demand" taskbar.

For the most part anyway, I vastly prefer the terminology of just getting things fixed and avoid all the other terminology...

My take on hiding the taskbar goes back to days of smaller monitors and needing more screen room for things like CAD and video editing where Full Screen gives more actual program room than Maximized, along with the hidden taskbar.
