Yeah, Windows is a pill that's hard to swallow sometimes!
I'm leery that Windows is headed in a direction that's going to be unpleasant for most traditional desktop users!

Yeah, I know what you mean.
But I don't think that custom builds are a long term solution.

Got it installed with USB drive. Holy F it was a fast install! Went to the bathroom when it started. I heard mother board beep once. Then it was booted fully. No reboots during install. I missed the install it was so fast.
Went to activate and it wouldn't. I pressed the troubleshoot activation button and it activated :D Win11 pro.
This is great so far!
Tried to install on a empty partition from sources setup.exe within Win11
It complained about installation files or something and could not continue.
Oh well

Eric: Did you try to activate it with a valid key? I tried to activate it too and when it wouldn't I figured it was because I didn't have a key. Are you saying you were able to activate it without a key by using the troubleshooter?

(Sorry if this is a dopey question...)

Mine activated by itself! 🤷‍♂️
With what key? I'm running this under VirtualBox on Windows 10 Pro so it probably doesn't have any awareness of my Microsoft account.

Mine activates with a key used from win 10. It now activates by hardware ID. I never have to put in a key.

But, I had a major crash. I tried to enable the weather in EP and boom. Explorer died. Keeps booting to black screen. Oh well. Trouble shoot later. Any ideas. No biggie. I can install again in 2 min.

Lol! I did the same damn thing! I'm like, WTF!!! 🤷‍♂️
I could boot to desktop after selecting "Try Again" from the recovery screen.
But explorer would not run. I bought up task manager and tried to run it too. Nope.
Re-installed. I took 90 seconds from starting the install to the first reboot.
It did reboot once. But it was very quick.
Activated using the troubleshoot button again. No biggie.
I will be imaging this time.

I can't show protected OS files or folders. Tried toggling the settings for it. Can't get them to show. I need this.
Also getting blue screens since installing the AMD chipset drivers after log out. Or just when logging in during boot. Can't see the error. Event viewer shows error creating dump file.

I'd rather use StartAllBack than Explorer Patcher, but, can't get it to work that way! 🤷‍♂️
Could do without the UX Theme Patcher as well!

It's lite and zippy but, not mind blowing.

The Boot Loader GUI is pretty clean.
This install is actually pretty snappy, considering it's running on an old spinner!
