Recently attempting to run ISO's of Win 11 (both 23H2 and 24H2), and both using Rufus 4.6 to set up a USB stick and running them directly from my main C drive as virtual drive mounts, I kept running into the same exact error on each attempt (0x80888002...) in which it stated "...could not determine if your PC is eligible...", "try again later"..... with "CLOSE" as the only option to click. After searching for solutions (my PC is TPM enabled with secure boot, PC health status shows eligible for Win 11), finally the one site I found at Setup Error 0x80888002: We can’t tell if your PC has enough space did the trick for me. I ran all of the CMD lines listed, including downloading a CMD batch file from MediaCreationTool.bat/bypass11/Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update.cmd at main · AveYo/MediaCreationTool.bat
I had previously monkeyed with my registry to turn off/bypass TPM checking, so I suspect since Microsoft is notorious for injecting new lines in their setup packages to scan/rule such settings as ineligible or in my case "....could not determine your pc's eligibility".... ) that the batch CMD file to essentially undo my registry hacks did the trick-- I went back and ran both ISO's (but backing out of each before sending it forward to complete), in both cases they finally reached the level to show it was moving forward without the error code, got to the list for keeping files and apps or selecting fresh install, etc.

I could not find an "edit" tool on this site to edit my thread post (newbie on this site) so I'm replying to my own post. I successfully completed the Windows 11 installation on my desktop PC, it is now running Win 11 23H2 with no hiccups. I was surprised how smoothly it went. Thanks to everyone who posted comments about the "error code 0x80888002" which led me to the solution I mentioned earlier.
