Hi folks
replacement of X11 and XORG video drivers on latest Linux distros and being replaced by Wayland make the "Virtual Video driver" in KVM/QEMU on Linux Hosts for Windows machines unavailable apart from the Microsoft Basic video driver -- QXL (the default) now only permits a "default" not changeable video adatpter display - plus the Red hat QXL video driver for Windows is "bust beyond repair" and since a huge amount of laptops etc like 1920 X 1080 -- that's no go !!! - so if you want a workspace GUI then you've got problems !!!! - OK not a problem via a text base server - with a limited GUI functionality is available from the VM - (not a typo !! from the VM) by installing cockpit on the HOST and from the VM accessing it via https://localhost:9090 or your servers IP address:9090.

You'll have to stick to Debian or Ubuntu until this whole mess is sorted out for "classical desktops" - and choose X11 as the option when you get the GUI login. -- note you can't blame Windows for this mess (for once).!!!

Cheers

you could install xwayland which should act as a bridge between X11 and Wayland.

best of luck, Steve ..

@XxXxX
Hi there

On Debian it just works fine (Debian 13 Trixie). I tried messing around with Fedora and that X11 Xwayland thing - still no go and just hosed up the whole thing into almost unreadable video !!!.

OK Debian isn't the most "Leading Edge" distro but I usually just want Windows for Office stuff etc so I'm quite happy to use it for this purpose. !!

(Also works as a 2nd level VM - with fast Nvme devices this is quite viable these days - so I can run my primary Linux Host, have Debian Trixie as a VM on that and then Windows as a VM on that. Perfectly good response for the stuff I use windows for !!!). Install the qxldod windows virtio driver -- install the W10 driver !!!! then it works perfectly !!!!!!

Her we go !!
