Remove some of the Default App Packages the easiest way for Windows 11 Pro users.

I have just learned this trick and wanted to share it with Elevenforum members. If this was posted before, please excuse me.

You can easily remove some of the Microsoft Store Default App packages from a Windows 11 installation. This trick applies only for builds labeled 25H2.

Start Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) with admin privileges and go to:

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> App Package Deployment

On the right pane, you will see Remove Default Microsoft Store packages from the system

Select it and you will see a new window open. There will be Store Apps with checkboxes on the left. Select whichever apps you wish to remove and then click Enable radio button.

That's it.

This policy only applies to removable default Windows Apps, other features which are marked non-removable won't be removed.

It's basically doing a Remove-AppxPackage as a GPO rule.

It uses standard Windows settings, so I don't know why you call it a trick.

Use of Remove-AppxPackage for so many app packages may result in time-consuming line writings and prone to errors for some, I guess.

Anyway, anybody can use any method to his/her liking for app removal. I used Apps, defaults apps in Settings and removed the apps by clicking their corresponding vertical three dots.

Brink's forums aren't as bad as Bleeping Computer. They've descended to chaos, browbeating all newcomers into posting the results of a Windows collection script before they'll begin to answer a typical Windows question.

I read your top post with interest. Most of the apps listed in the Local Group Policy Editor as per your screenshot can also be safely removed using Revo Uninstaller. Pays to have a full system backup before starting.

It never hurts to know various ways to accomplish a task. Even if it is not something that I might use myself, having seen this, I can use that info to at least help others.

Mmmmm, GPO has sloppy cleanup.
I've seen this problem before, you've removed the App but it leaves behind the already pinned icon in Start Menu.

Apparently you can feed the GPO a list of any removable package, not just the ones listed in the ADMX template. lol.

That's not correct, it is in 24H2 as well.

However, uninstalling official apps might not require version 25H2. Microsoft's Jason Leznek confirmed that the features included in the update will also appear in version 24H2, although they will be disabled by default.

I'll reserve final judgement and give them time to work out bugs.... but man, if only there were a better way to remove default packages from an image before you deploy it, so you don't have to remove them [edit: after the fact, I mean]. Someone should get on that.

So what did you do use vivetool to enable it as by default it is not enabled.
I do not see it and do not need it to remove apps I do not want.

You mean mount an offline image, and do Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage?
Because IT admins are too lazy to read the learn.microsoft.com docs?
