Solved Remove this Icon from System Tray From Appearing

I have this icon continually appearing in my system tray refer photo attached. It says unread news. It has to do with Kasperksy Standard (formerly KIS) I upgraded to this latest version. I have unchecked all the boxes from Settings/Interface/Promotional Materials however this does not make it go away.. I am stumped. I don't have a problem with the normal Kaspersky Icon appearing here to show my protection is running. This news icon has got to go !!! Edit, Rebooted, it's come back ! I don't need to read the news !!! Just notifications for the program. Update or threat related.

I would look under the Interface > Notifications section, or under the Interface > Promotional Materials section

Because it's an AV program, you may have to reboot the computer to apply the changes.

If they don't or won't, then I would switch to Bitdefender Internet Security, because they DO give you a 24/7 support number.





I have been using Bitdefender Internet Security since 2013.
It is an AV/firewall, and does everything.
I have most of it turned OFF.
I only use the AV, firewall and Threat Defense.

That's all I have. You'll have to contact Kaspersky for more. ^^
Kaspersky has a forum also.

Antivirus programs are not like regular programs.
They have... kernel hooks.

Normally when a programs misbehaves, I just uninstall and reinstall.
You should probably do that with Kaspersky. BUT... the uninstalling part, needs a special Kaspersky removal tool.



Personally, I would contact Kaspersky, first.


Note: I type very slowly, so everything I typed in post #6, is important.

Note2: They need to invent a device so people can just talk to each other at a distance. Oh wait...




I'm not trying to be a smart a**, but due to the fact that most people use Windows Defender, and the fact that Kaspersky (Russia), is blacklisted by the US govt. right now, there just aren't as many Kaspersky users as there once were, so...
you pretty much need to contact Kaspersky for further help with Kaspersky AV.

OK I am in Australia and our Gov't hasn't blacklisted them "yet" I have reached out to Kaspersky support. I am really dubious of any claims that there is some sinister agenda behind Kaspersky. I don't wear a tin foil hat. Thanks

I don't really worry about it, one way or the other.
About a year or so ago, the US govt. said... "Best stay away from Kaspersky".

So, a lot of Google results are now gone in the US. :/

Try Taskbar settings, other system tray icons and see if it's there to turn off.

It's slider is off as per below, the Kaspersky one is also off but I see that one too.. (that one's no issue)

Not exactly relevant to the original post, removing that icon, but the Taskbar setting isn't an issue. That 'on/off' switch doesn't stop the icon from displaying. If it's On, the icon shows next to your clock and other icons, if it's off, they show under that arrow as seen in your screenshot. Therefore those settings have no bearing on what you want.

Just an FYI, sorry for going off-topic.

I am justt following what Fabler requested me to check - so it won't remove this icon. I right click on it and it doesn't bring up any context menu , well actually it does sometimes, the same as when I right click the Kaspersky icon but other times it doesn't do anything...

Could it be a Startup item in Task Manager that you could disable?

there is nothing in my Task Manager under "Startup" that mentions Kaspersky at all.

There is no such icon on my Dell XPS 13 EVO laptop with Windows 11 22H2 and Kaspersky Standard installed on this device..

Kaspersky tech support are useless , they are claiming this icon is part of Windows. FFS unbelievable , they don't even know their own program. Poor product knowledge

It seems that this icon belongs to Windows and not to Kaspersky. Should you want to get rid of this then you may right-click on the icon and then turn it off or not show the notification.

More wrong advice from Kaspersky Support -- I told them 2 days ago

You may change the notification saving in reports, open this section through Settings > Interface > Notifications > Notifications settings then untick under the notify on screen. Kindly refer to the attached images for reference

The screenshots they provide aren't even the latest version of Kaspersky Standard but an older version which looks nothing like mine.

Well Kaspersky finally got back to me and the advice was that the I hadn't read the news , once I read the news the icon will not reappear. Well that was correct advice as the icon is no longer there after reading any unread news in the notification window...
