They disappear as you read them. Or, they should. You should also be able to click on the bar to mark it read.

Good avice from @jvickers, I think it's best to leave them as it makes sorting easier

But the unread emails are already in bold and a different colour (as per conditional formatting default settings)

Mine read emails area all with the blue bar and font. Once read, the blue bar disappears, and the font turns black (white for me since I use Dark Mode) while the blue bar disappears. I'm using Outlook 365 but with a different view.

The blue unread bar drives me absolutely NUTS!!! Here's the only way I have found to get rid of it: (Win 10, MS 365)

As stated above, change View to "Single" , THEN select View Settings-> Group By -> Uncheck "Automatically group according to arrangement" -> Then choose "(none)" under "Group items by". This made my blue bar go away. Hope this helps...

Now if they would just fix the ugly washed-out color pallet in categories... This is a mail management system, not a Spring fashion show!! (*audible eye roll*)

Wow, thanks! That worked, although I have no idea how one could have arrived at this solution even by trial and error
