Retrieving OneNote notebook from old laptop

I got into my old laptop which has Windows 10. I opened OneNote and right clicked on a particular notebook to see the file path. The path indicates the notebook is saved to the D: drive (thumbdrive) but I don't have a thumbdrive plugged in to the old laptop.

My subscription to the MS suite on that old computer is expired now. At the title bar on OneNote is says OneNote (Unlicensed Product). I'm not sure if that's why I can't save the notebook.

I tried to export the notebook, but after I click the Export button, I am taken back to the the first page in the notebook. No option about where to export the notebook.

1. How am I able to open that notebook even though I don't have a thumbdrive plugged in?
2. How can I save that notebook to a thumbdrive? All I see is an option to share a link which I don't want to do. I want to backup the entire notebook to a thumbdrive.

If you already have a Microsoft account your OneNote notebooks are sync'd through that so just make sure you are logged into it. If you don't have a MS account you need to create one using the old laptop. Your new laptop then just needs to log in to the MS acoount (after installing OneNote of course if it doesn't already have it)

On my old laptop, I shared the notebook and entered my email address. I haven't received an email with the link.

Also I'm logged into my MS account on my new laptop. I don't see any file in OneDrive. I don't see anything about OneNote. I'm not sure where I should go. I can see my old computer and new computer under the section called Devices.

You need to have OneNote installed on both and be logged in to your MS account on both. They will then sync. OneDrive is not involved and no links are sent either.

Thank you. On my old laptop, I right clicked the notebook and selected "Sync This Notebook Now." The status says up to date.

What do I do now?

I was able to find it in my online account. Now I just have to figure out how to download it to my local drive.

It got to OneDrive somehow which I can see on my laptop, but when I click the notebook, a browser window opens which takes me to OneDriveLive.

Don't know what to suggest next. I have OneNote installed as I have said on a PC, a laptop, and on my Android phone. It's all syncing normally. Hope someone with greater in depth knowledge can help.

I'm thinking there may be a fault atm - just created new pages on phone and laptop and they haven't yet sync'd. First time I've used it for a few days. Try it again later and so will I.
