    ...Where's my horse?
I’m still stupid enough to climb out of the rear passenger side window of a car, jimmy sniper climb to the top of the car and pop my head over the windscreen to scare the crap out of the driver.
Yes I have done this, yes he slammed the brakes on, yes I kept going, yes he was traveling at around 60kmph. Yes it hurt, yes it was funny, yes I was very drunk.
Would I do it again? Get me drunk, yes.
I always knew there was something special about you. You're a runner up for the Darwin award!

Anyway...
Well, it's almost bedtime for this old guy in Ontario, but I know it's a fresh day for you, @antspants, so I'll wish you a good day, and say G'night to all of you still hanging in there on this bizarre thread.

I really did look for a Rumour thread before I generated one. Here's another refresher:

I look at it this way. MS has given us a hell-of-a ride that has challenged us at every turn. At times, I've hated that challenge, but for the most part I thank MS for it.. We old-timers have felt every bump and pot-hole along the way while many young-uns who visit here can't relate at all to OSes like NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, or even 8. MS has gotten a lot of things wrong during the ride, but they have gotten a lot of stuff right, too. Whether I agree or disagree with what MS does, I've accepted that, like @Scannerman, I'm a dinosaur, and companies like MS and Apple are not designing operating systems for dinosaurs. As Windows users, many of us here are the past. These companies are all about the future....and their shareholders. It's not personal. It's business.

The analogy between cars and computers is a good one. That's why I mostly drive my 30 year old Maxima which has over 300,000 miles on it. I love that car.. It's a little beat up and needs new tires but runs as smooth as the day I bought it. Besides that, it gets great gas mileage and has antique tags and doesn't have to be registered but once every five years so it's cheap to run. But if I'm going on a trip, I drive a Buick that has bells & whistles I don't even know what they do, let alone use them....but it has new tires whether they make me safer or not..

As long as I'm able, I'll accept any future challenge put forth by MS and keep plugging along. If I hate it enough, I'll stop. I won't be missed.

@glasskuter That's exactly where I'm at with this. I remember as a lad hearing my grand parents say they don't make stuff like they used to. I never thought much of that at the time but I thought again when later on, in my adolescence, I heard my parents saying it more frequently. By the time I was in my teens I didn't care what those old fogies thought because the world was my oyster and I had my whole future ahead of me. By the time I was in my late 20's I started to develop an appreciation for some of those older things, like my '68 Impala for example. (Never should have sold that car.) By the time I was in my 30's I was saying the same thing my grand parents said and more and more frequently.

Life goes on. Times change. The Microsoft of today is not the Microsoft of yesteryear. Business is business and you can see the future shining in every baby's eye. I don't begrudge a company for keeping up with the times. People change too and their needs also change. That said one thing that doesn't really change is quality. Either a product is a quality product or it isn't. Sadly, it would seem that the law of entropy prevails in the world of corporatism as well. IMO there's just too much obsolescence going on. I realize this is a sign of old age, but it's the old folks that first notice this as a rule. Like the solid cherry wood dresser I got my wife. Today there's lots of simulation melamine and hard board out there that looks good but it will hardly last or compare to the real thing. My father hated particle board and plastic for this reason.

These mass produced tablet operating systems just aren't my thing. As long as I can run my network, my little town's web page, my family server, and upload my amateur videos to YouTube I'll be happy. I don't need A.I. (or at least what they're passing off as A.I. these days.) Of course, I don't see text files vanishing any time soon so I'll still keep 'writing' my manuscripts and share what I will on the forums. I'm a dinosaur and that's okay. I'm still going to try to roll with the punches along the way but man, sometimes those punches are really rude!

I heard the US are going to adopt British spelling, so the thread title will need updating.

According to Wikipedia "In science, medicine, many sectors of industry, and some government and military areas, metric units are used. The International System of Units (SI), the modern form of the metric system, is preferred for many uses by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology". The rot/improvement has already set in.;-)

As much as I despised the transition in my youth the metric system is logical and imperial measurement really needs to be a thing of the past. It's as clear as the fingers on my hands.

If a pc does not complain, then why it would it matter?
That's like saying if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear. I don't like pop ups (usually) and my PC never complains about them. There are many annoying things about Windows that I don't care for and my PC doesn't "complain" about them. Admittedly, I managed to eliminate most of them and as long as I am able to do this then these remain mild annoyances. It's the stuff I can't change that bothers me.

It's the stuff I can't change that bothers me.
They open every AA meeting with
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."

But I agree with you, @Scannerman, the annoying little things I can't find a way to change irritate me no end.

I would be forever grateful, for instance, to anyone who told me how to eliminate all of the things I don't use and don't need from the Start menu's All apps list. Specifically, Get Started (DUNW) (Don't use; Never will), Notepad (ETAE) (Easy to access elsewhere), Paint (ETAE) Settings (ETAE), Snipping Tool (ETAE), Terminal (ETAE), Windows Backup (DUNW), and Windows Security (ETAE).

I have that menu list populated with folders of useful things, and those extra, useless items just make scrolling necessary always.

More proof that @glasskuter is the goat!
