Solved Run FreeFileSync/RealTimeSync in background as Admin without UAC prompt?

Hi

I am having issues after a fresh install of Eleven that I hadn't come across in Windows Ten or after the upgrade from Ten to Eleven.

FreeFileSync is having trouble deleting "sync.ffs.lock" files due to ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED: Access is denied. [DeleteFile]
I am assuming it's as folder permissions issue but I am clueless on this, I never change permissions out of a paranoid predisposition regarding either stuffing something up or being compromised, especially when it comes to User Folders.

I read on their forum that running the program as admin could resolve this, but I don't want to have to click OK every time the program(s) start. FreeFileSync & RealTimeSync

Is there a way I can run these two programs as admin without a prompt and without having to set "Never Notify" in UAC settings?

Adding RealTimeSync in highest privileges in Task Scheduler didn't have any effect.

Starting the two apps is fine with a UAC prompt, or without one using the above tutorial. The problem is that I already have that in the task manager to run RealTimeSync on startup (Highest Privileges)
But RealTimeSync calls on FreeFileSync (as far as a I Know) to complete the backup tasks. This I think is where the problem is, FreeFileSync when called on by RealTimeSync isn’t being run with elevated command so it cannot override the permissions when wanting to delete or replace the file. It’s only happening to files in the User Folders.

I’ll take a look over the next couple of days. Perhaps, as I have read, the Error_Access_Denied may stop after a few runs. Don’t know how though.

I had the same problem, all folders had to be re-owned and no more errors!

You could set up your sync software to be run via PowerRun, AdvancedRun, or NSudo.

I prefer PowerRun, but I've also used AdvancedRun in the past. NSudo has lots of fans, but note that it will trigger your AV on download.

Thanks, Les. I’ll look into those if I can’t get it working without error. My only resistance is that it never did it before and like @miw mentions, it’s a permissions issue I believe. I just don’t know what i’m doing. Time to learn!

Thanks, Shawn. I do have that saved. I have always wondered, I did just read it and if I understand correctly, this will only change the folders to Admin (as I am logged in as Admin) and not leave them open to any other sub user?

It'll change the owner to your specific account, and grant you full access and permissions.

Anything that had previous access will still have it.
