I have a problem with Windows components and the WINSXS folder

I Run all the commands that check file integrety and image check (sfc /scannow; DISM /online/ cleanup-image /scanhealth and /restore health) with no problems.
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore gives the folllowing:
Component Store (WinSxS) information:

Date of Last Cleanup : 2024-09-05 20:17:22
Number of Reclaimable Packages : 13
Component Store Cleanup Recommended : Yes
The operation completed successfully.

dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup gives thsi:

Try running this command, from an elevated command prompt...

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

I also gave you ten points just for "mostly" filling out your computer specs. :eyeroll:

I would try a repair install if cmd as admin doesn't work.

Yes RPC is running automatically
Did an in-place upgrade twice and issue remains
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase also errors out at 5%

Don't know if this has any relevance but running Settings->System-> Optional Features ->"turning windows features on or off " runs extremely slow as it tries to find the files to install (Such as loading SMB). For most programs my desktop is pretty fast.

Sigh. I was afraid of that.
Might want to do a System restore to before the problem occurred.

If you already did the In-Place Upgrade, then you're looking at a clean install.
And this time... start using 3rd party backup software. ^^

1) Please run Tuneup plus > post a share link

2) Post a zipped share link for: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

3) Run the V2 log collector > post a share link

4) Create a new restore point:

5) Run administrative command prompt > take pictures > post images or share links

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

5) Run this administrative command prompt command overnight while sleeping > take pictures > post images or share links

schtasks.exe /Run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Servicing\StartComponentCleanup"

To copy and paste from administrative command prompt (ACP) or administrative powershell:

Right click the top bar of the ACP box > scroll down to edit > left click select all > right click the top bar of the ACP box > left click copy > paste into the thread

When pasting into the thread view the menu bar: click </> to wrap the post in code tags

Good news.!!

After a 3rd attempt a repair install (keeping software) fixed the component cleanup.
Now I can go on without needing to install my 32 applications that I didn't want to reinstall.

:giggle:

Appreciate all the help and suggestions
