Hi everyone, please help me identify the root cause and how to troubleshoot. Below I provide the info related with the case.

Frequency of incident: Random

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Plug any external drives (Seagate, WD Elements, WD My Passport)
  2. Unplug with or without safely removing first. Both didn't matter.
  3. Gets BSOD
For more comprehensive system information,

This is so frustrating as the BSOD often wiped my ongoing work which involves frequent back and forth of connecting external drives. Please help me and thank you!

1) Increase the free space on C: so that the free space is greater than 30 GB

2) Uninstall and reinstall:

a) Legion fan control

lfcrw LFCRW \??\c:\program files (x86)\legionfancontrol\rwdrv.sys

b) Nvidia GPU drivers nvlddmkm.sys

3) The BIOS Version/Date LENOVO GKCN59WW, 21/11/2022

Upgrade the BIOS: GKCN59WW > GKCN64WW

4) Run HD Sentinel (trial version)

Tune up results were good.

Once there is more free space Windows can create and maintain memory dumps should there be any new BSOD.

I uninstalled then reinstalled Legion Fan Control, which so far has fixed the issue after multiple attempts of connecting and disconnecting HDD. It was enlightening to know the source of the malfunctioning service.

I haven't tried updating BIOS or DDUing Nvidia Driver, since I'm pretty comfortable with the current version and don't want risk unknown bugs.

Many thanks Zbook!

The computer logs indicated: BSOD and hangs and / or freezes

The misbehaving Legion Fan Control driver had caused the BSODs.

The misbehaving Nvidia GPU driver had caused the hangs / freezing.

If there are any recurrent hangs and / or freezes then replace the Nvidia GPU driver.

You're welcome.

How did you solve the issue exactly? Legion Fan Control = rvdrv.sys = blue screen if plug anything in USB. I do not see the way except do not launch Legion Fan Control. :(

Very late reply but still may be useful. I've also been encountering this issue and what I do is simply exit LegionFanControl before plugging in a USB drive. Exiting the program will also unload the driver so no more BSODs. After I'm finished with the drive I simply launch LFC again. Annoying but I don't use external drives that frequently so I can live with the compromise.
