S/Mime OWA access in Edge

Windows 11
I have to access CAC-enabled sites and in Internet Explorer to access encrypted e-mails in Outlook Web Access (OWA). That was because Microsoft never upgraded their S/MIME extension for Edge...and Chrome and Firefox have never made one at all as far as I know. However, with upgrade to Windows 11 I now no longer have Internet Explorer. In IE mode (in Edge) it appears to be just for viewieng and does not come with access. For example, if I got to a CAC-required site in IE mode it just freezes because it doesn't appear to be linked up to Windows Security to prompt you for a CAC certificate (make sense?) Most CAC sites work but I would really like to retain the ability to read S/MIME encrypted OWA e-mails...I just don't know how to do it now. Recommendations? Thanks.

The immediate cure on a temporary basis is to return to Windows 10, which should last you for the next few years or so [November 2025?]. whilst using Windows 10, you can then contact the secure site providers and discuss what their plans are going forward.

Internet explorer unfortunately is an obsolete piece of software that is no longer supported on Windows 11, ( it's actually obsolescent on Windows 10 also, so there needs to be an alternative secure system brought online before the EOL of Windows 10 and Internet explorer

Thanks. My solution has been to install the ietab extension in Edge and when I need to read/send an encrypted e-mail from home I enable the extension. It's worked thus far.

Glad to see you winning,

there are always issues When Microsoft deprecate applications, or methodology, that people have come to depend on for their workflow.

OK, it's up to the 3rd party developer to make their software work with Windows or Windows applications, and Internet Explorer had been in the process of coming to its end of life for some time but it may be a bit of redesigning of the system is needed to keep security systems working with potentially unpatched software like Internet explorer
