I was researching a topic and found an article which I actually found very good

> I clicked on a URL to read the follow up
> against better judgement I clicked on a further URL promising an expert answer for $2
> bait and switch for $88 including a signup fee and 1 year subscription to justanswer.com
> I realized my mistake and stopped :-)

Be safe :eek1:

I recently went through an online IQ test to test my grey matter is still working, and submitted results and then go an email back saying there was a £2 fee as it costs the site owners money to provide such tests.

Immediate alarm bells (proving my grey matter is still functioning) as I smelt a scam here - I cannot say if it was genuine, but certainly smelt like it.

On many similar sites, you often have to register an email address before they send results but never been asked to pay money upfront.

I am still waiting for the registration certificate for my share of the Brooklyn Bridge so I can get a share of the toll money. I am getting a bit worried now

I have been thinking about online payment methods Credit Card vs PayPal.

Credit Card: you need to enter to enter your name, card #, card expiry date, security code on the back of your card.

PayPal: you need to login with your username, password and 2FA (if you have 2FA enabled), choose your method of payment (if you have registered more than 1 method of payment)

PayPal (and other semi-automated payment services) needs less time than a Credit Card, but that less time also means less time for you to realize that you are about to make a mistake

On the other hand, with PayPal you don't have to disclose your Credit Card credentials to the merchant (which I like)

All in all, a note to myself (and perhaps to others) take note of the bolded message in the above.

Paypal is only quicker if no 2FA which is more secure. In fact, Paypal set me an email - somebody in US had bought something in UK account before I had 2FA. I never even realised it but they refunded my cash immediately even without me making a claim.

A couple of times, did not get goods and Paypal refunded immediately.

With banks, you could be making promises with your dying grandmother and they still would not believe you.

For me it is no contest - paypal for sure.

I also use google pay but not online as a rule but in shops, pubs etc. I always keep my phone with me but I leave my debit card at home except when I need to draw a wedge of dosh.
