Samsung Begins Official Rollout of One UI 8 to Galaxy Devices

 Samsung Newsroom:

Samsung Electronics today announced the official rollout of One UI 8 — introducing advanced multimodal AI capabilities, a UX optimized for different device form factors and personalized, proactive suggestions to make everyday life smarter and more convenient. Starting this week with the Galaxy S25 series, One UI 8 will also reach the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy S24 FE and additional eligible models later this year.

Personalized Suggestions With Advanced Security

Samsung-Mobile-One-UI-8-Rollout-Galaxy-AI-Multimodal-AI-Galaxy-S25-series_main1.jpg

One UI 8 recognizes the user’s context, offering personalized, proactive suggestions that support their unique daily routines. And as Galaxy AI becomes more intelligent, so does its commitment to protecting private data. One UI 8 combines advanced personalization tools with top-tier security features, anticipating user needs while keeping information safe.
  • Now Bar shows real-time app activity and media player progress directly on Galaxy Z Flip’s FlexWindow, and is also now integrated with even more third-party apps.
  • Now Brief provides even more personalized daily updates including traffic, important reminders and Samsung Moments, which allows users to reflect on their daily routines. They can also get personalized suggestions and recommendations, such as music and video picks based on subscriptions and interests. In addition, personalized health insights from Galaxy Watch are also easily accessible.
  • Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) is a new security architecture designed to safeguard the next generation of AI experiences used by Galaxy’s Personal Data Engine (PDE). KEEP creates encrypted, app-specific storage environments within the device, ensuring each app can only access its own sensitive information.
  • Knox Matrix takes security a step further by automatically signing devices out of the Samsung Account if flagged for serious risks. It sends notifications across connected Galaxy devices and gives additional guidance on how to protect data.
  • Upgraded Secure Wi-Fi with post-quantum cryptography (PQC) encompasses a new cryptographic framework designed to strengthen network protection against emerging threats, helping to ensure robust privacy — even over public networks.

Intelligent Multimodality: AI That Works the Way the User Does

Samsung-Mobile-One-UI-8-Rollout-Galaxy-AI-Multimodal-AI-Galaxy-S25-series_main2.jpg

Powered by multimodal AI designed to deliver experiences tailored to user needs, One UI 8 transforms the way users interact with Galaxy devices. By combining visual, auditory and contextual intelligence, it makes everyday tasks intuitive and effortless.
  • Gemini Live allows for natural, seamless communication with AI that understands what the user is seeing or watching in real-time, without the need for switching between apps.
  • Circle to Search with Google gives in-the-moment gaming help when the user circles anything on the screen during game-play. It provides more information about characters and strategies to help the user navigate to the exact spot in the game, with helpful links and videos from across the web to explore further. With Circle to Search’s improved translation capabilities, users can see translated text in real-time as they scroll and interact with the screen. From news articles to social media posts, they will see instant, on-screen translations of the underlying text in their preferred language.

UX Optimized for Multiple Form Factors

Samsung-Mobile-One-UI-8-Rollout-Galaxy-AI-Multimodal-AI-Galaxy-S25-series_main3.jpg

One UI 8 redefines versatility with UX optimized across the Galaxy product portfolio. Designed to adapt to the unique form factors of Galaxy smartphones and tablets, One UI 8 ensures seamless functionality while boosting productivity and efficiency.
  • AI Results View displays results from AI features in a separate Split View or Floating View, keeping their original content visible and unobstructed.
  • Thanks to Galaxy AI Optimized for Large Screens, Multi Window lets users drag and drop AI-generated content — including images and text — directly into their workflow. Tools like Drawing Assist and Writing Assist unlock an even smoother creative process, as users can move ideas and visuals around more easily than ever before.
  • Gemini Live is now available directly on Flip’s FlexWindow for hands-free voice search, acting as a personal assistant right on the cover screen.
  • Audio Eraser proactively detects and removes unwanted background noise, like wind or traffic, with a single tap on a new toggle in video apps and audio apps.
  • Featuring a new clock design that stretches and adapts to match the user’s wallpaper. The clock’s font wraps around faces or contours, ensuring visibility without disrupting the image, whether it’s a close-up selfie or a picture of pets. Users can also customize the thickness, size and color of the font to meet their personal taste.
  • With advanced customization even for FlexWindow, users can easily create a wallpaper by receiving recommendations and auto-curated wallpapers from the Gallery. Emojis and background colors are also customizable for FlexWindow Emojis wallpaper.
One UI 8 also provides AI-powered tools like Portrait Studio, which can capture the vibrant expressions of pets and then generate artistic, studio-like pet portraits. Users can also enjoy seamless communication in noisy environments with Call Captions — which instantly converts voices into text during calls — as well as keyboard inputs when using Interpreter, which allows users to translate ideas by typing.

This reputable site gives rollout dates for UI8 (as far as is known).

Actually, there is hardly any significant change between UI7 and UI8. Lotsd of tinkering but no real substance.

So my S21 Ultra which still works 100% perfectly is now "deemed redundant".

I'm not 100% socialist but some of this stuff where people are plagued with 1 Trillion dollar companies to "Upgrade" perfectly sensible pieces of kit with minimal advantages for the user is just PLAIN BONKERS.

How many on this forum who might have an S21 Ultra Samsung phone really see any significant advantages in to "upgrading to an S25".

I LIKE modern technology but at least at the point where it has SIGNIFICANT advantages over a previous version.

So Challenge here

Anybody who still has an S21 Ultra Samsung phone have they upgraded to an S25 model and why -- what could the S21 not do that the S25 does.

Cheers

Sure, I had an S21, and when the USB port stopped working reliably for charging and the battery life was noticeably shorter, I upgraded to the S25. The S25 charges properly and has better battery life than my 4 year old S21. Oh, and I found a great deal and got the S21 for $400 which did not include any trade-in, still have the S21 in the closet. Since it still charges wirelessly, it's my backup if the S25 ever gets lost or broken.

OH, and the camera is better on the S25 than the S21, I had constant focusing issues with the S21. Maybe my S21 was simply broken, I can't say, but I was glad to get better quality photos.

I don't like UI 7, so I probably won't like UI 8.

It's the Gemini stuff I don't like. Even when disabled, it keeps popping up and volunteering to be of assistance. :/

The cutoff is the S24 - that and above is when all the new AI features of UI8 are included.

So there is a lot more "functionality" for S24 and better but of course whether it is really useful is a hot topic. Frankly, I think most are bs.

I (potentially) only miss one feature on my S22+ i.e. AI Audio Eraser which (allegedly) cleans up background noise making speech clearer - especially important for deaf users. Even then, does it work on live audio?

I bet it does not get rid of the modern "darling producer" obsession with excessive loud background music which often drowns out the speech - no wonder subtitles are needed!

Fine provide the battery does not discharge more quickly. I turn off most of this 'AI' stuff on my S25 anyway.

My Zfold3 is now obsolete but fortunately it's still working just the same and should continue to do so after 8 is fully rolled out so I've lost nothing as long as they're not tuirning off functionality. I got it as a gift and only use a fraction of what it can do so when it dies I'll get something much nearer entry level and still be happy (I hope).
when the USB port stopped working reliably for charging
I had that problem and found that contact cleaner and a tooth pick solved it although you probably tried that sort of thing.

This reputable site gives rollout dates for UI8 (as far as is known).

Actually, there is hardly any significant change between UI7 and UI8. Lotsd of tinkering but no real substance.

From what I've read it looks like UI 8.5 will have "bigger improvements" and new features, and that update will/should be available Jan or Feb, 2026.

Yeah but it is not clear for S22 users if they will get that update or not as it's 4 years of updates is nominally up at end of 2025. Not clear if support is 4 years from release date or calendar years. S22 was released Feb 25 2022, so it might just qualify - also is 8.5 counted as a major update anyway.

There are a few good S25 deals on base model and FE (which is fine for me) but I use UWB for finding keys in house with galaxy smart 2 tags (never yet found them in the apocryphal fridge lol) but the base model does not have UWB. There is a big price jump for S25+/ultra.

Contrast that with Iphones that all relatively recent models have uwb for airtags.

I shall wait a while as refurbished S25s should be coming on to market at a more reasonable price soon (I always buy refurbished as much cheaper - battery life is always at least 80% and easily replaced).

Grabbing the update on my S25 Ultra now...lets see how much they screwed up my workflow this time.
😂

How many on this forum who might have an S21 Ultra Samsung phone really see any significant advantages in to "upgrading to an S25".
I had no other reason to move from my Note 20 Ultra to an S25 Ultra, except 3 things.
1. Battery life (which was poop from the start)
2. Screen broke and the fix was way too expensive or it was too cumbersome to find the correct parts even if I could do it myself.
3. S25 is 2-4x faster for everything depending on usage case.

I don't like UI 7, so I probably won't like UI 8.
Me neither, but getting used to UI7 now. I am guessing UI8 will be even more in wrong direction.
Truthfully, I don't spend enough time on my phone to worry a lot about the user interface.
I spend 95% of my computing time on my mobile, so for me it makes all the difference. I use the phone also in DEX mode (Desktop Experience) with connected mouse and KB on a 32" display.

Jeez...that upgrade was quick. 4GB of stuff and it all got downloaded and installed in a snap. Microsoft should take notes. 🙃

Nothing significant has changed so far. Still as terrible as UI7 😂

I see UI8 has been rolled out in Nepal but bizzarely not yet to US S22 models.

I guess I am going to have to borrow my Sherpa's phone if I need any UI8 features when I climb Everest😂.
