Samsung Gallery app will no longer sync directly with OneDrive starting September 30, 2026

 Microsoft Support:

Overview

Starting September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery will no longer sync directly with OneDrive.

After September 30, 2026, new users will not be able to link their Samsung Gallery and OneDrive apps.

If you previously used Samsung Gallery to OneDrive sync feature, you will need to update your camera roll settings to continue backing up new photos and videos and to access any photos you have already backed up via the OneDrive app.

Why use OneDrive for photo backup?

With OneDrive, your photos and videos are securely stored in the cloud, accessible across devices, automatically backed up, and easy to rediscover.

What's changing in Samsung Gallery?

After September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery will no longer sync photos to OneDrive. All photos stored in OneDrive will disappear from your Samsung Gallery app.

Note: Your OneDrive photos and videos are still accessible at onedrive.com or through all your devices where OneDrive is installed.
Use OneDrive to continue backing up, viewing, and managing your important photos and memories.

New photos and videos will only upload if:
  • OneDrive has permissions to access all your photos & videos.
  • Camera backup is turned on.

Who is affected by the changes?

  • Any OneDrive user on a Samsung device.
  • Anyone who has used Samsung Gallery sync to OneDrive.

What happens to my existing Samsung Gallery photos?

Your photos and videos already stored in OneDrive:
  • They remain safe and unchanged.
  • They continue to be accessible from all your devices where OneDrive is available.
  • They are not deleted or modified.

How do I keep backing up my photos to OneDrive?

To continue backing up your photos automatically:
  1. Open the OneDrive app.
  2. Log in with your Microsoft account if you are not already logged in. This may be different from your Samsung account.
  3. Tap your Account Profile in the top left of the app.
  4. Select Camera backup.
  5. Ensure the correct account is selected.
  6. Turn Camera backup on.
  7. Grant access to photos and videos if prompted.
Once enabled, new photos and videos will upload automatically. Learn more about how to Automatically save photos and videos with OneDrive.

Note: You must not exceed your storage quota. Learn more.

Why does OneDrive ask for permissions?

OneDrive requires access to your photos and videos to automatically back up new content. Make sure you give OneDrive access to all your photos and videos for backup to run properly in the background.

How much storage do I have?

If you need more space, you can upgrade your storage plan:
Explore OneDrive storage plans and upgrade options

Or manage your storage directly:
Clean up space on your Android device with OneDrive

Manage your OneDrive settings

You can review your camera backup settings, storage usage, and permissions in the OneDrive app or through your device's OS settings.

Troubleshooting

If you don't see new photos in OneDrive, check that Camera backup is turned on, your account is correct, you have storage availability, and strong internet connectivity.

For additional troubleshooting steps, see Troubleshoot OneDrive for Android app problems.

AFAIK this is being rolled out, i.e. not everyone has the "Camera backup" yet.
With me (OneDrive for Android v7.55) where "Camera Backup" should show up, it still reads "Gallery preferences".

I have camera backup, perhaps it will only work if Samsung gallery sync isn't also enabled.
have to wait and see.

You can sync it with a random Chinese app, but not with Samsung's official app, got it, yet another MS improvement. :nope:

it's ridiculous. None of the other options will upload photos in the albums/folders the way Gallery does.
All I get is a load of files not organised.

Google Photos won't do it, Dropbox won't do it.

OneDrive sync works for me if I disable Gallery sync, I guess it can't do both!
If I take a picture and then create an album, move it to there I do get the album folder in OneDrive so that's something

No two-way sync though and deleting from the phone won't delete from OneDrive.

0/10 for Samsung doing this
