Solved Search Highlights image disappeared after 24H2 update

Hello, everyone! Unfortunately I got an issue with the feature that is the hardest to recover on Windows - the cute image in the search box from Bing Search Highlights disappeared again, this time after updating to 24H2. I tried all possible things including registry tweaks but seems like nothing is working. I reinstalled Bing Web Search app.... doesn't help.

Many of you probably know that on 23H2 there was a time when this issue was solved with Vive Tool tweaks and etc. This time seems nothing is helping. Right after I updated to 24H2 I got a Bing Web Search app corrupted (which although I successfully restored with Microsoft Store). So at least now i have web search results in my Windows Search. However, the image never returned.

I will appreciate any kind of advice or support.

See if setting search highlights to on brings the image back. Settings>privacy&security>search permissions> more settings(at the bottom) "show search highlights" toggle to on

I don't this exact option in Windows 24H2. I have something like "Let search apps show results" toggle and below I have a Bing option to enable (if Bing is installed, and yes I installed it after update).

Personally, I try to stop Win 11 from suggesting, AI-ing, copilot-ing, BING-ing.
No thanks Microsoft, I've been doing my own thinking for 68 years now. I think I'll stick with that.

I know this thread. I think i added to my registry all possible entries that should fix that problem but nothing is working. I just don't have "Show Search Highlights" option in my Search options. Please see the screenshot i attached earlier to see what i'm having there... completely different thing which is called "Let search apps show results"

Yes I know. This how mine looked too before 24H2 update. But now it looks differently. What should i install\remove or tweak in registry to return the old options?

I know it might sound stupid, but appearance of that small image means a lot to me since it's connected to some good period of my life. It cheers me up every day when I log in. And now it's gone.. it's just grey, empty, boring. Above that, I feel like a fool compared to everyone else who has normal option, and for some reason I have that different options layout.... which nobody else has.

I have this theory.
MS doesn't have a clue, so how are we supposed to figure out what they broke... this time. ^^

Generally when I do a Feature Update, I always do an In-Place Upgrade.
This repairs Windows and does the upgrade.

This method seems to work out better in the long run.

So what are my steps? I can download Windows Installer and try to update windows again. I'm not going to perform a clean install of Windows since it's a disaster for me.

I linked the In-Place Upgrade tutorial in the post just above.
If it were me, I'd restore from a backup made on 23H2, then redo the upgrade to 24H2 using the In-Place Upgrade.

If you don't use 3rd party backup software and don't have a 23H2 backup... then you could roll-back to 23H2, if it's been less than ten days since you upgraded to 24H2.

An In-Place Upgrade "compares" what is installed on the computer, with the Windows ISO image.
Then, it overwrites any corrupted Windows files, with clean copies from the ISO image.
This is how it "repairs" Windows while allowing you to keep your programs and personal files.

Also, be aware that 24H2 has quite a few bugs. I mean... it's fresh out of the oven, so to speak.

Generally, for the In-Place Upgrade to work... the ISO you use needs to be newer than whatever version you're on.
Even on UUP Dump the only "newer" 24H2 ISO version is an Insider version.

Since, 24H2 is so new... you might just want to wait a bit. MS "may" actually fix the problem you are seeing.

At first it said that it didn't locate the right source for in-place upgrade but then it tried again and now it's downloading.... so maybe it will work we shall see. I also have that bug that outlines "check updates" button or CPU usage square in task manager. So yeah I understand it's new, but from my experience such things rarely get fixed if they have appeared from the start. I can survive the button outlines, but having one of the key features missing (although I know people try to get rid of it instead) is upsetting me.

When having the Media Creation tool, build the ISO, make sure you wait till it "tells" you it's finished.
It will say something like... "Press zero to exit".

Okay i just finished the in-place upgrade. It rebooted a few times, finished everything and... nothing literally changed. I still don't have that "show search highlights" in my search options, but i still have that weird "let search apps show results" option. So I guess all i can do is to wait for them to update the system or... get used to the fact i'll not be able to recover Search Highlights option again. However, i'm still wondering why my Search options interface is so much different.
