All,Basically I'm a Linux user & I hatewindows because what is simple on Linux is super complex on Windows. Right now trying to do a content search for the word "Recitals" fro the over 1 million files I have. On Linux I would just open "KFind" enter "*.docx" for the file types, click thr "Content" tab, enter "recitals" and then click "Search".

All the HOWTOs I've found on finding content on my Win11 laptop are lying, becausetheoptions theysay exist are non-existant on my laptop, thus making :"content search"impossible. I constantly find this kind of lying information everywhere in all the Windows HOWTOs, so of course I hate Windows. There are never ever those inconsistancies in the Linux HOWTOs.

So how do you actually do a content search?

No Lies Please!

If you can't understand the guides/instructions, please don't leap to the conclusion that people are lying. If a Windows user moved to Linux, he would also have a steep learming curve.

In Windows 11, you can search for files containing a specific word, such as **"recitals"**, using the following methods:

---

### **Method 1: Using File Explorer**
1. **Open File Explorer**:
- Press **Win + E** or click the File Explorer icon on the taskbar.

2. **Navigate to the Search Bar**:
- Click in the search bar at the top-right corner of the File Explorer window.

3. **Enter Your Search Query**:
- Type the following to find files containing the word "recitals":
```
content:recitals
```
- Press **Enter** to start the search.

4. **Refine Your Search Location** (Optional):
- If you want to search in a specific folder, navigate to that folder before typing the search term.
- To search your entire computer, go to **This PC** in File Explorer.

---

### **Method 2: Using Advanced Search Options**
1. **Enable Advanced Options**:
- In File Explorer, click on the **Search Options** dropdown (under the "Search" tab that appears after you begin a search).
- Tick **File Contents** if it isn’t already enabled.

2. **Retry Your Search**:
- Type **recitals** or **content:recitals** in the search bar and press **Enter**.

---

### **Method 3: Using Command Prompt or PowerShell**
1. **Open Command Prompt** or **PowerShell**:
- Press **Win + S**, type **cmd** or **PowerShell**, and hit **Enter**.

2. **Run the Search Command**:
- Use the following command to search within text files for "recitals":
```cmd
findstr /s /i /m "recitals" *.*
```
- This searches all files in the current directory and subdirectories for the word "recitals."

- For a specific directory, use:
```cmd
findstr /s /i /m "recitals" "C:\path\to\directory\*.*"
```

---

### **Method 4: Use Third-Party Tools (Optional)**
For more powerful searches, you can use tools like:
- **Everything**: Quickly indexes and searches all files on your computer.
- **Agent Ransack**: Allows detailed file content searches.

Would you like detailed steps for using one of these tools?

Ok All,

I understand "content: word or phrase" is the right way, but with over 1 million file on my pc I need something like "file: *.xls"; content: word or phrase"; so what is the right syntax for such a combination?

Cheers,
