Seeking a rationale: Why would you skip a Macrium Reflect Update?

I was offered the latest V. 8 update (dated tomorrow), for both my paid and my free installs, and the offer included (as always, I think) the offer to skip this update "if none of the listed issues affect you." So far as I could tell, nothing they're fixing is broken on my installs, but my assumption is that the Macrium people are waaaay better than the MS people at getting their updates right, and building an ever-better backup machine.

If you turned down the update, would you take a moment to tell me (us) what your reasoning is?

Yahbut, it IS broke. You just aren't using one of the configs on which the "broke" shows up. They're fixing the "broke" so that your config won't experience it in the future, yes?

I use The paid version and this update contained fixes, It was broken.

I can only remember once there was a problem with macrium and that was about 3 yrs ago and it was fixed quickly

I run Macrium Home and
1 always install the update;
2 always download the updated app from the Macrium website; and,
3 always re-create the the Rescue Media for the update.

Why? If you have an issue with the app, their support people will ALWAYS ask you to update to latest version before they even look at it. It saves you time if do not have to update before support will look at it. And maybe the.issue will not allow you to update & you may have to do a complete re-install.

Hi,
If you use reflect in the os the os updates will eventually break it so updates are needed but the main reason I stopped using reflect in the os too

If you just use the winpe recovery media to create and restore system images you don't need to update it
Really old winpe's work just fine on win-11 mainly because the os is not active.

Is there something in particular broke that is affecting you. or are you just speculating? Why are you seeking? All software needs updating.

Never had an issue with Reflect over many years, but there have been plenty of upgrades and fixes.

The problem is you never know when an obscure bug that has been fixed might bite you up the rear if you do not upgrade.

I always upgrade (having taken an image backup first of course).

Being "realistic" for a minute, not all version changes are made as fixes for issues, some are made to refresh the look and feel of an application, and yes, a part of this may be to drive sales.

There are also those updates to match a new OS look and feel, this is appreciated by some but not all potential users.

A single home user has an easier choice than a large company or a small business.

I am not in the habit of updating software just because the developer wants me to, unless an update gives me something more than the existing setup, obviously a bug fix, (for a bug I suffered from), would be a major reason, a new "skin" would not be likely to be enough of a reason.

I think my view on this comes from my history where I was responsible for a larger number of devices than a typical home user, and the associated cost, (even a free update cost money to perform on multiple devices)

You slightly misunderstood my OP. My bad. I ALWAYS take the MR updates, but I notice that MR offers the possibility of skipping if you wish, and I'm just curious about who skips and why they skip.

I read the MR lists of fixes every time, and those lists are usually sizeable enough for me to think, "It's broke, even though I haven't noticed any problem, so I'm gonna take that update."

I wasn't looking for an excuse to NOT update.

I got another update this morning to v 8.0. 6353 it said that it could be skipped if not needed but I did it anyway, it was before I had any coffee.

Ah, well because they depend on it critically and need to test it in their environment to be confident that are no issues before deploying.

I always try to avoid the "herd mentality", (not meant as an insult to anyone).

If an update improves things for my system then I will install it, if not why do I need to add something that improves nothing, and may be detrimental to my system that is different to every other system

If I am driving along the road and I see another driver changing a tyre, that does not automatically lead me to change all the tyres on my car, (though it may remind me to give them a quick check the next time I have the opportunity)

I'm not insulted at all by being called a sheep. :clap:

I just take 'em as they come, cuz I figure some of the flaws they're patching that I haven't seen are flaws I just happen not to have seen yet. Yes, my config is unique, but I share a lot of things with the machines they're patching. I'm not arguing, Nigel; I'm just sayin'.

Can you uninstall that patch and then re-install it? Something's very wrong there.

My full main SSD backups changed by three seconds, and that's almost certainly because I added something to that disk.
